Thanks John,
First 'action' shot of the TVR I've seen. There's still some work to do with brakes and handling, hopefully sorted for before Spa, might take it to the Gold Cup, we'll have to see. |

Race 13 - Historic F2
Slightly disappointing entry numbers for this race. 18 starters and 11 finishers. As I was going through the results, I noted a statistically odd fact that is probably of interest only to me! 7 cars carrying competition nos with the number '7' in them started. The number of cars that retired was 7 and of those, 4 had '7' in their number! Oh, and of the surviving 3 which carried '7' all finished in the bottom 7, the best not finishing higher that 5th! A mere curiosity, of course; it was the favourite number of Stirling Moss and he had plenty of success with it!
Steve Maxted (Lola T360) pretty much had his own way here, because there was a terrific squabble going on behind for 2nd place which allowed him to ease away to a 6.2 second victory:- And here we have the 2nd place battle in full swing. 57 is Neil Fowler (March 71BM) in a rare F2 outing, and 27 (March 772) is Bo Warmenious, over from Sweden. Both were to retire in the latter stages of the race. Tucked in behind and barely visible is Bob Juggins (see below):- Paul Bason, another to retire, in his March 712:- Michael Scott was 2nd in the Brabham BT30 which he acquired from Neil Glover a couple of years ago:- Roger Bevan (84 - Brabham BT21A - 11th) and Nick Overall (14 - BT35 - 10th). Simon Perkins finished 5th in his March 71BM:- Bob Juggins finished 2nd in the Lola T240:- 11 seconds down on Juggins came 3rd place man, Peter Meyrick (March 782):- Last edited by John Turner; 7 Aug 2008 at 19:46. |

Race 14 Historic FF2000
This race was delayed slightly after a clean up operation to soak up a large trail of oil stretching almost from the exit of Brooklands to the entry to Woodcote. The 23 cars came to the line for the start which after one lap was red flagged and we lost 3 cars (presumably the cause of the stoppage). Whereas that first lap had suggested that Ben Atkinson-Willes in his Reynard SF79 was going to to take the race to the leader, Russell Love (98) in his Lola T580, it was Colin Wright (35 - Reynard SF79) who pressed Love all the way to the flag following the restart. They finished in this order after 13 laps, less than half a second apart:-
Alan Gape retired his Royale RP27:- In fact, of four RP27s which started, only this one of Andrew Storer finished, in 6th place:- Seamus Doyle finished 13th in his Lola T580:- The race for the lead was matched in its intensity by the race for 3rd. Dale Spruce (34 - Reynard SF79) eventually fell 13 seconds behind the other two cars here so I'm assuming an off at a late stage in the race. He was to finish 5th, whilst Trevor Arkell (45 - Reynard SF81) was to take 3rd, with Peter Denham (65 - SF78) just half a second behind in 4th:- Derek Watling finished 8th in his very smart SF79:- Roger Price was 7th in his Delta T79 some half a minute ahead of Watling:- I don't know exactly what happened to Atkinson-Willes. Maybe he had a lengthy pit stop, but he finished last of the classified finishers in 14th place, a lap down. He put up fastest race lap, so it was clearly a case of what might have been. Here he is about to recover a lap from Antony Raine (25 - Merlyn Mk28), who finished 12th:- That, thankfully, puts this 3 month old meeting to bed! Last edited by John Turner; 18 Aug 2008 at 17:20. |
