Check out today's 'Autosport' page79!!!! The KINCRAFT is alive and well ( except for some restoration) and is for sale by Roger Cowman. A nice colour pic of it too.
Please someone rich out there , buy it and race it again so we can see this glorious single seater in action after all these years.

There are only 2. The single seater which is for sale in Autosport today and the sports car that Richard Blenko owns. Yes, Richard is coming to the UK and I will meet him probably at The Oulton Gold Cup historic meeting.
Thanks.

Hello (said the latecomer)

Have just found this thread, so hope I can still contribute.

I have some photos I took of the Kincraft just before we won the World Cup. It was indeed red, and I first came across it at Croft on 30th May 1966 when Robin Darlington drove it. My camera at the time was a fixed lens thing so the paddock shots were alright but the track ones showed a tiny dot in the desolate waste which was Croft at the time.

I am not sure what success Robin had with the car, but he seemed to like big engined ones as I have a few shots of him in a Lola T70 at Mallory later in the year.

The following year Jim Moore had great success in club races around the country with the Kincraft, and I have one fuzzy shot from (an even more desolate) Rufforth.

This wasn't the only V8 engined single seaters pre-F5000, but was probably the most successful. Do you remember Chris Summers' Lotus-Chevrolet?

Photos follow, firstly the Kincraft at Croft:

DaveM - Superb! You have some gems there.
Interesting to note the varied road cars in the paddock shots too. Including the 'Basil Fawlty' style Austin behind Chris Summers car! You know, the one he beat up with a tree branch!

I'LL GIVE YOU ONE MORE CHANCE!!!

P.S. Sorry that my mention of Chris Summers seemed to ignore the fact that he had already been mentioned earlier in the thread - I had only read page 1 and hadn't realised there were two other pages!

I got a bit carried away on the Roll Call thread and included the following, which I should have posted here!

I remember most of the names/cars mentioned above and have pics of many of them. Do you remember Peter Hawthorne who drove an imacculate Anglia (pale metallic blue I think) with a 2.5 litre Tasman engine? He then had a dark red one entered by Castle Service Station Racing and "registered" CSSR 1. Both very successful in club racing at the time.

The Tasman Anglia!
DaveM - check out the thread 'Angleboxes' in the Historic Section. But again, it has three or four pages of posts. There is a photo of it there I think. Keep 'em coming!

Going back to the original subject, here are some more pre-F5000 big banger single seaters, all from Rufforth 27th May '67. Taken from the spectator enclosure so blown up from little specks hence the poor quality - sorry!

In neat numerical order, firstly Tommy Reid (4.7 litre Crossle)...

I don't know Dave - fill us in!
I remember Jock Russell racing a Lotus 70 in F5000 but that was later - 69/70. He also had a pretty hefty shunt at Paddock at Brands.
Is the Russell - Ford 'Lotus' based?

They all seem to be inspired by the Kincraft - and F5000 from that.

It wasn't a quiz question Andrew - I don't know the answer! Is there a F5000 thread? I have quite a lot of photos from the first year.

Yes I think there is, within the past 6 months or so in the historic forum or you could start a new one! Yes please Dave, let's see your F5000 pics.

Dave

These images are great to see. The Russell-Ford is a bit of a mystery but I think it was based on a Lotus 35. The Tommy Reid Crossle was probably the 10F, the forerunner of the proper F5000 15F. The Charnock Cooper was a T66.

These early years of F5000 need more research. Your photographs will be a huge help.

Much as I love the Kincraft, it really had littel influence on the beginnings of F5000. The 5-litre Formula started in the US when, in June 1967, the SCCA allowed 5-litre stock block engines to race alongside 3-litre racing engines in Formula A. With Lola, McLaren and Surtees all building cars for that formula, it was decided to import the same rules as "Formula 5000".
