Speed should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
McLaren or Renault?

Who will get WCC?

Renault - 144
McLaren - 136

4 more races to go.

Gap is eight points in Renault's favour, so I'd suggest McLaren will just squeak it at the final race.

Renault - with their reliability I can't see both their cars failing and Mc's getting 1 and 2.

It's an odd one though. Ron is the fastest but Flav has the best all round package - er hem - or that's what is rumored!

beating renault wont be hard for mclaren if its just down to speed but its a very good race if both of there cars actually manage to finish.if they can sort out the reliability renault dont have a prayer.(but what are the chances of that)
its just too hard to call.

It should be McLaren.

But they have been within striking distance before and it has fallen apart.

Cue Mercedes breakdowns.

Renault aren't standing still, so McLaren will feel that they need to keep the development going as well... very close to call, but I can't help feeling that at least one DNF is still to come from the Woking lot. Renault to hold on. Just.

Ron will have a pretty sour face if they let this one slip away. It's not everyday you have a car so superior.

I agree that McLaren's reliability hasn't been what it should be, but (discounting Indy) they are the only team to have scored at every race.

I just think that Montoya/Kimi will garner a few more points than Alonso/Fisi - mostly because Giancarlo hasn't delivered as many as perhaps he should have.

From the start I have felt its been Mclaren and I still stand by that decision. Fisi is still abit to inconsistant and Alonso would rather settle for some points and save his championship than risk over doing it just to get the manufacturers title for Flavio.

Fisi's good showing at Monza does inded come into the equation - I'm figuring that he will get a boost from that and score well in the remaining 4. Also, BAR and Toyota have looked less likely to get in the mix and take points away from Renault.

Ah, but don't forget the Renault conspiracy theories Glen!

They will hobble Fisi's car to stop him from beating Alonso to the titl.......err, wait.....

haha, you would then have to say Renault would be stiff to miss out on the WCC, while McLaren have been pushing really hard.

I think this is going to be one of the great ironies this season - that McLaren will win the constructors' championship, but their lack of reliability will cost Kimi the WDC.

We'll see.

Which is fair enough.

The constructors championship is to reflect the efforts of both cars - JPM has outshone Fisi.

And over the piece, McLaren from 30 starts have had 5 DNFs, which isn't bad at all.

It isn't just the DNFs that have hurt them - it is also the TPPs (Ten Place Penalties).

Hmm..it's ironical because i thought that Kimi should have won the WDC by a whisker, but Renault the WCC... Renault has the best overall package although Mclaren is significantly quicker.

If Renault win the constructors title, they'll have had the best package - job done.

Likewise McLaren.

The Renault is an impressive, rounded (literally and metaphorically) package. It seems to be quick virtually everywhere (barring two races where thay have lost their way with set up) and pretty tough too. And they have very much ploughed their own furrow on the design side for the last few years - it is nice to see innovation being stuck with. Same is true of McLaren also of course.

I think McLaren can overhaul Renault by 2 points per race in the remaining events, they've generally closed in by more than that in recent races. They fundamentally have the faster car, and are unlikely to have more than a couple of reliability problems in the rest of the season.

Renault may be reliable but Mclaren has two cars vying for wins on a consistent basis. If Mclaren finish it is usually in front of Renault.
