If your trailer is snaking you have the weight distributed wrongly

Saw someone plough into the armco on the M1 near Luton last week in that situation. Couldn't believe people were still overtaking him 5 seconds before he lost it in mid snake!

I towed one car home, usual position, except it had no engin ein and a boot full of spares . . .55mph, SNAKEY!
lent the trailer to our neighbours and it came back with scrubbed tyres, he was white as a sheet, said they where doing 85 and all of a sudden it went walk about, he could read the numbers on the door of his rally car !!! managed to hang on to it though how does the anti snake bar work then ? |

I think it's very simple, and by virtue of friction plates increases the amount of effort required to 'turn' the trailer such that it does not do so otherwise than under the tow cars steering influence. In any event, they are very effective and convenient and, for the sake of £100, a valued safety item.

It wont cure a badly balanced rig. It needs to be seen as an extra safety device. If you've got fundamental balance problems they need solving first otherwise you are just disguising the problem.
