Andrew, enjoy! CSCC doesn't tend to publish entry lists on line yet. However in your race I can tell you that the published list has 19 entrants plus any late entries (you!). Class A (upto 1300cc) has 1 x Davrian; Class B (1300-1600) has 1 x Rover 216 Gti); Class C (1600-2 litre) has an MR2, Lancia Beta Coupe, Alfa GT Coupe; Class D (2 litre - 3 litre) has 3 x Ferrari 308, a couple of Porsche 944 & a Lotus Esprit; Class E (over 3 litre) has a Toyota Supra turbo, a TR7 V8, a Pomtiac Trans Am, a Jag XJS, a 944 turbo and 3 x 911s. Hope that helps.

Sounds great; a really interesting mix of cars there. Format (40 minute race with pitstop / opportunity for 2 drivers) is just what I've always wanted to do.

Somebody somewhere has clearly thought this through and come up with the right formula for club racers. 15 minutes of racing can be over before you've blinked and to run a car for several hours in endurance spec is another proposition altogether so this seems a brilliant way to offer the best of both worlds

Having just got the entry it looks like another incredibly varied grid for the Swinging Sixties with real variety for the spectators.

In Race 1 (up to 2 litres +cars on histos) we have 7 x Spridgets, 1 x A40,BMW1600Ti& 1502,NSU TT, Triumph Herald, Spitfire & GT6, Sunbeam Alpine x 2, Alfa GTV & 2600 Sprint, Marcos 1800GT, 3 x MGBs, 2 x Ginetta G4s and a Mk2 Jaguar.

In Race 2 ( over 2 litres + all Lotus), 2 x Triumph TR5 & 2 x TR6, Reliant Sabre 6, Ford Capri (3000), Marcos 3000 GT,MGC GT, 4 x Jaguar E Types, Aston DB4 Vantage, Sunbeam Tiger, 2 x Chevrolet Corvettes + 1 Camaro, 2 x TVR Griffiths+ 1 Tuscan,8 x Lotus Elans + 4 x 7's and a Ford Galaxy.

Add those to the excellent field for the Future Classics, the Jaguars XJS & Saloons, 33 entries for the BARC Intermarque challange, 31 entries for the Motorsport News Saloon Championship (including 7 Escort Cosworths, 2 Skylines & a Sierra Cosworth in the top class), and the open sports car race it looks like Saturday is going to be a bumper day at Brands with Sunday being nearly as good although without as much Historic interest, can't wait, just hope the weather is fine.

Peter - just to prevent any misunderstanding the MGBV8 is not currently a swinging sixties car (1974) but would be a Future Classic (don't let the series name put you off)

I'll be there Saturday to watch over the Future Classic race and may be doing a bit of safety car driving - so if I'm out there then don't overtake me ...

... does that mean I might actually win ??

Actually, my point was you could stick a V8 into an MGB from 1969 and it wouldn't affect the silhouette, thus you could run it. From what I see of the regs it is silhouette based thus as long as that remains unchanged, wider arches and bigger engines qualify (hence 1950 b's).

Regs are engine type and silhouette to be retained.

So any hayabusa engine plans for my spit would have to be shelved

Yes, so that means that you can't install a V8 in an MGB & run it in "swinging Sixties" unless you can somehow prove that they were actually manufactured like that in the 1960s!

Um,

Do they allow prototypes? I'm thinking here of versions of cars built for competition by the works.

Peter these are the regs as taken rom the CSCC web site:

The Series is open to ALL sports and saloon cars in production in the 1960s. Cars from the 1950s will also
be eligible. Cars from the 70s “in the spirit” of the Series may be accepted by the Committee.
The cars must maintain their original engine type and vehicle silhouette, although aeroscreens are allowed.
Side windows may be removed on open cars.
The cars will run on Yokohama 60 profile tyres, or Dunlop historic L or M tyres.
Class structure:
Class A – Up to 1400cc
Class B – 1401cc to 1600cc
Class C – 1601cc to 2000cc
Class D – 2001cc to 3000cc
Class E – Over 3000cc
Class F – All cars running on Dunlop Historic L or M tyres
Class G – Cars with original V8 engines
Class H – All Lotus cars (eg. Seven. Elite, Elan, etc…)
Class I – Invitation

There are several things to note here. 1) It says "in Production", 2) it says "cars from the '70s in the spirit of the series may be excepted", 3) there's an invitaion class. So, you may be able to get an MGB V8 in on the basis of points 2) & 3). However, Swinging Sixties has been so popular that the club has split the grid in two for this weekend at Brands. My advice is to ask the series co-ordinator.

There's an MGC GT that races in CSCC "Swinging Sixties" already, so you'd have company.

we popped up to say a few hello's, great weather, and swinging sixties has great grids, it was very good clean close racing as well.

I will always question running '60's' cars on modern semi slicks . . . . it doesn't make them that much faster, takes away a bit of period sideways watchability and rapidly accelerates chassis/monocoque degradation for those who haven't 'modernised' the whole car already.

a good day out though and thanks to LAK for tix . . .I'll let her update us on Mr LAKS temperature, and her race . . . .sorry, we sloped off for an early bath!

A brilliant day's racing with the weather to match. Some fantastic grids and for my own part a great race with the Swinging '60s. Thanks to the CSCC team for putting on another great meeting - oh and thanks to Wayne and co for carting the Falcon panels across the paddock!

Zef - I take your point about old cars/new tyres. I've long thought that the Yokos we use are over grippy for the cars and it does lead to excessive wear on the suspension and no doubt contributes to the failures of some major components but it is just the way that some racers and series have developed. Perhaps if the historic tyres were a more realistic price, more racers could be persuaded to run them. The CSCC has classes specifically for cars running historics.

Perhaps a lot of club racers are more comfortable on grippy tyres because they can't cope with cars sliding around beneath them, I know I can't!
