Silverstone Classic BBQ

Once again Iain Rowley (Delta) will be providing a BBQ and liquid refreshments for marshals at the Silverstone Classic. The BBQ will be held on the Friday evening and should start around 8pm. All marshals are welcome.

Once again a big thank you to Iain and all the other drivers who contribute.

Most likely in the old paddock as normal, this will be confirmed when Iain knows where he will be located.

Can't wait. It will be my first Classic and I'm bringing my son who is looking forward to it just as much as the GP (I've done my best to drag him up properly! !)

Not to be missed as this is a superb gesture to the marshals and chance for us to chat to the drivers and give them some pointers.........

Seriously - Thank you Iain and the team for putting this on for us.

Thanks to the outstanding generosity of some of the F1 teams I have;

4 Pirelli Caps
2 Marussia Caps
1 Lotus Cap
1 McLaren Cap

Some lucky devils are going to go home with a dry head.

Of course if the quality and quantity of prizes on offer are sufficient without these treasures, I may have to return them as 'unwanted'.

I had hoped for something a little more substantial, as it is for those hard working volunteers who marshal, but so far .......

Sorry for bringing up Clive and his instrument, we don't want Delta to be stuck with a lorry load of redundant burgers.

I'm not sure if we class as this! Genuinely hope to get along to the Classic and the BBQ's are always excellent.

Fingers crossed that we'll be there - I certainly hope so!

Anything we can bring along? Has anyone remembered the coleslaw?

Are marshal's guests welcome? My 13 year old comes with me to most race meetings and will be at the Classic. He is hoping to start marshalling when he turns 14 in August.

As you may have noticed we are running a quiz at the barbecue, and a set of questions have been prepared, some I think quite difficult, however, being an aged OAP, I had forgotten about the 'mobile phone menace'.

With my kids any thing you ask them they instantly reach for their phone and 'Google' for the answer. Like: "Yes I am your daughter Dad! It says so on the net."

Is there any way of ensuring that people can't just 'browse the net' to get the answers?

Can one rely one the honesty of the marshal fraternity to play fair? After all there are prizes to be won.

Any ideas you can share?

bauble.

Make sure that all mobiles are turned off!

OR

Have everyone in view so they can't "cheat" and a free drink for anyone who does spot a potential "cheat".

OR

Make the questions so obscure (I must stop watching Pointless) that even Google doesn't know the answer!

Shelagh, I'm sure no British Marshal would even consider cheating .... would they?

Oops! Just noticed; all drinks are free.

I have tried to include a few that, as you suggest, even Google can't answer, so with a bit of luck and a hawk eye, fairness should reign supreme.

Bauble.

I'll keep a close watch on Clive though.

Can we have the quiz paper during the day to get used to the questions? That way we won't have to use Google at the BBQ.

I would be happy to do that Chigs Old Friend, but I fear it might distract you from your duties. Think of the chaos if the marshals were not paying attention.

It might be just a rumour but I understand that some of the ladies will be performing a 'Striptease and Belly Dancing Routine' A sight guaranteed to make a strong man blench.

Also Alan will be demonstrating his conjuring skills by juggling with a set of flags, Greem will be reading extracts from his memoirs, and Clive has promised not to bring his guitar.

Don't miss it all.
