Our New Zealand members

we seem to have a few members here from the land of the long white cloud (Thats NZ Moff )

a couple of questions has sprung to mind so i thought i would ask.

What kind of coverage of v8's do you recieve ???

is it same day coverage and full replays or is it highlites a day or 2 after the meeting ??

same goes for super touring ..or any of our racing series for that matter ...Formula Holden , Formula Ford Daewoo cup ...whatever

for your info we get no coverage of any series in NZ..allthough Cable TV did show the Drink drive 500a year or so ago ...Aaron Slight was racing i remember that much.

what about our beloved racing magazines..like Auto Action , Motorsport News or motor racing Australia (or whatever its called)

I havent seen it for a while but ages ago i did see a newspaper type thing from new Zealand in my local newsagent and it was basically the same as our AA..but based on NZ racing of course.

just curious to know what our friends over get ..allthough from what i have seen here so far you guys seem to be pretty up to speed with whats going on and we welcome you aboard and hope you enjoy the ride.

V8 coverage, try highlights at least a week later. The length seems to depend on what else is on. We also get various other events, selected at random. There was Aussie Formuls Ford a week or two ago, which was quite entertaining. And of course Bathurst, which is usually live.
If a Kiwi does well in somthing we get better coverage. For instance we're getting CART highlights this year now that Scott Dixon is in there.
We also get F1 live, usuaslly starting at 12 midnight.
We'll thats pesant TV anyway, I don't have pay TV so I don't know whats on there.

Were well served by our local mags, AutoCar, Driver, Speedsport, etc, etc, and we have a wide selection of Aussie and UK mags available, they're expensive though, specially the UK ones.

It's a magazine, comes out ten times a year, once a month March through to November, then a January issue. Which agrees with the frequency of race meetings in Australia.

Well balanced, generally, some international stuff, some technical, some historical (both international and local, but mainly local) and a lot of the V8 tourers.

Some good people writing for it....

Greetings from ScottDixonLand!

Our coverage of the v8 Supercars is really very good.
We usually get highlights from race one and then the second race of the meeting live.
Adelaide (and I assume Canberra this year)are different.Getting the Saturday leg the following day and then the Sunday leg the following week.
Bathurst we get the live Aussie coverage.(You guys have far too many ad breaks BTW.)
Most frustrating for me is the World Rally coverage.45 minute highlight package up to six weeks after the event.
Live free to air F1 is greatly appreciated.
Got sattelite TV for CART,SuperBikes and GP bikes.Pity they dropped the GP bikes without any word.
Overall I think we get it pretty good.

New Zealanders, you're lucky getting live F1 coverage. Good old channel 9 usually delays our races by 1-2 hours.

Regarding V8 Supercars, I'm surprisded how much coverage they get in NZ. How popular is it over there?

It's funny, we've now have scribes for Motor Racing Australia, Auto Action and Motorsport News who frequent this forum. If only we used our evil powers to promote 10-10ths...

I think they would use local tv equipment etc, but Race Time, you might know- how about the control gear for the incar cameras, would they have to ship that sort of thing off to NZ?

Other than that I'd say they would have Barry et al doing their thing, and I'd say we'd have buckleys chance of seeing any NZ stuff- heck, we hardly see any Aussie support races!

True enough. Last week I noticed that they had the bunch of angry young men/smiling faces debating or talking about V8 Supercars while other races could have been shown.

This is definitely a letdown when you can see how much time Channel 10 can devote to racing.

Howdy all

As wheelman mentioned, NZ has the first race delayed, and the remaining ones live. I am now in QLD so more Supercar coverage - hell yeah! Rusty has a chat with the RAT after qualifying at each meeting which is good.

Marcus, yeah, Aaron drove in the 99 race, and the RAT drove last year. Radisich and Bairdo will team up in a AU for this years LK500 which has now moved from Puke to Ruapuna.

We have a good mag, NZ Motorsport (?, or something along those lines), and we do get Motorsport Australia. Their Bathurst mag is always good.

...and it will have a very interesting controversial subject covered this year.

Could arouse strong and passionate feelings between old team mates!

NZ Speedsport is a great monthly mag for racing.
They cover EVERYTHING.
I also always read KiwiRider and the Motorcycle News Trader every month.
Interested to hear about the LK500 racing at Ruapuna this year.
They took the GP off us so I guess we should be grateful for this.I heard a rumour that the Nations Cup cars may be doing Ruapuna as well.
I thought it a bit far-fetched but I'd love to see it happen.

Procar was evaluating that at one stage, but they have decided to give it a miss on a cost and logistics basis.

I have seen a schedule somewhere, but I can't remember...I don't think it is monthly, more, irregularly.
