It's based on the French comic book hero Michel Vaillante (not sure about that first name). I believe the production is based out of hollywood and is lead by a well known producer/director who's name escapes me right now. If done right it could turn out pretty well, but considering the trend in motorsport related movies over the last few years my expectations are pretty low. All you have to do is see Driven and you'll be a pesimist too.

What you're looking for is here :

The motion movie is made by Luc Besson, and the main character is Michel Vaillant, from the Jean Graton comic books. Issue for June or July ?

Will it be in the U.S.?
Will it be in Texas?

Driven was completely awful. Days of Thunder wasn't much better. It's hard to make a movie about racecar drivers, because they are more stable than other types of athletes.

If you wanna make a good racin' flick, make one about Senna and Prost. There's drama!

The interrest of the movie is the race (and history), not drivers IMHO... that's why I like Le Mans (the movie)...

The thing is, will it ever make it on to the cinema screens? We have to remember its aimed at a Niche Market and may not appeal to the general public..

Depends of the marketing... if there's spectacular pics or somethin', maybe... well, I'm not a cinema specialist at all...

You just pointed out the problem, Fab. No one will make a movie about a race. It's always gotta be about human tenacity overcoming adversity. Thing is, the directors don't realize that's all in the racing.

What stain on the map? Must have missed it. jk

Well, if Luc Besson has anything to do with it, the racing scenes are going to look good. "Taxi" was such a failure worldwide that they made two sequels, and it sells like hotcakes on DVD despite being subtitled - usually the kiss of death for a film on general release.

I would think the producers will at the very least be astute enough to release the film in France a week before this year's race. Should be ample opportunity during the annual Le Mans pilgrimage to dive into town and catch a screening, and hopefully if nothing else, the art cinemas in most major conurbations in the UK will show it.

Yes, that makes sense Tim.

As long as M. Besson doesn't grab the "Welcome" building like he did last year......

Could they not erect a large screen at the race itself and show it to the gathered masses?

Wasn't it a crying shame that Chris Rea's film 'La Passione' was such a flop commercially?

I've never seen it, although I've got the soundtrack album, as it happens. Quite like Chris Rea. I've looked around for the video or DVD of La Passione, but I've never seen it. Does anyone know if its available?

Chris Rea, the singer/guitarist produced it/made - call it what you will. I'm not entirely sure of the storyline (someone else can help there), but I think its based upon a young boys recollections of the Ferrari's days of the early to mid 60s. Is that somewhere near bit? (A bit difficult to glean too much from the soundtrack album!).

What I do know is that Rea had a sharknose Ferrari replica built especially for the film, as there were none remaining in existence. One of the best looking F1 cars of all time - surely?

As a matter of interest, I can't seem to find La Passione anywhere - on DVD or VHS. Anyone seen it?

I've got it on vhs - bought it when it came out in WH smiths. Its more art work than film, and its very strange indeed but I really, really like it. I'd like to see the directors cut of it. Dunno if it is still availiable.

When I say art wok - I meant that in a fairly literal sense it would be more at home in the tate modern than in blockbuster. Having seen it it could never be a commercial success.

Wow Taxi 3 - gotta go see it, it should be on at the prince charles in london.
