Superleague Formula - Round 1 (Donington) - 31 August. Event Thread
New thread now race weekend is upon us?
Here's the lineup for this weekend; good to see Tappy getting a drive so quickly after losing his WSR seat. 3 AC Milan Robert Doornbos 4 Galatasaray Alessandro Pier Guidi 5 PSV Eindhoven Yelmer Buurman 6 Al Ain Andreas Zuber 7 Flamengo Tuka Rocha 8 Anderlecht Craig Dolby 9 Olympiacos Kasper Andersen 10 FC Basel Max Wissel 11 Borussia Dortmund Nelson Philippe 12 Beijing Guoan Davide Rigon 14 Corinthians Andy Soucek 16 FC Porto Tristan Gommendy 17 Rangers Ryan Dalziel 18 Sevilla FC Borja Garcia 19 Tottenham Hotspur Duncan Tappy 21 Liverpool Adrian Valles 22 AS Roma Enrico Toccacelo Qualifying from 1230 tomorrow; and there's a "rookie session" at 1835 although I'm not quite sure what that entails. All I can say is anything can happen, it's probably going to be mental. As far as video streaming, well, if anyone knows anything about debritishising a computer,

Thats only about 4 tenths off the WSR qualifying time set by Parente at Donington last year.

I must say I'm pretty excited about the series. I'm familiar with the better part of half the grid and have a rate a number of the drivers quite highly. That combined with what seems like a good chassis and an exciting package overall should hopefully make for some close racing.

Oh there's definitely some decent drivers in this. As one or two mentioned in the overall discussion thread, it's giving a few guys who've run out of money a chance to run something big and lairy and potentially keep their name out there.
Yes, i'd like to know if there's some feed somewhere so I can at least see something and hear that engine note which apparently is superb! I'm gonna put my neck on the line and stick this thread as it's worth a highlighted discussion for the opener at least!!! |

Yes, the race and quali will be streamed live on their website - http://superleagueformula.com/superl...e-broadcasting . Install the octoshape plugin there as it's needed. They say there is some geolocation to turn it off in to countries where there a TV deal.

Top man, thanks for the heads up!
I'm actually looking forward to seeing how this develops..... One thing 'wrong' though.... a footy based series could never be right without some Argentinian presence What do you think Mekola? |

Stream working anywhere? Looks like it's running late.

Couldn't get the pdf page up from that site? Usually works fine though.
What I could gather from the rather confusing 'live comments' on the SL site is that Beijing and Seville were doing rather well in qualifying. |

Couldn't get the stream working chunterer?
It's pretty simple. You need to click on the link in the first one and then run (to install Octoshape, the thing that makes it work), and then click on the second link to get it to show. Chunterer, if it was confusing the qualifying may not be that normal. There are two qualifying groups, and those outside the top 4 in each get knocked out like F1. Then it goes in to a knockout tournament. They release two cars with about a ten second gap. Faster goes through. The grid is something like. Winner of final Second place in final. Fastest semi-final loser. Slowest semi-final loser. Fastest quarter-final loser. 2nd fastest quarter-final loser. 3rd fastest quarter final loser. Slowest quarter-final loser. Then those outside the top 8 by time in the fifteen minute group sessions. Qualifying was rather epic, and the GP2 regulars aren't doing that well! The race start times on the website are one hour behind british time (on GMT not BST), so here are the BST times Race 1 : 10:30 broadcast start, 10:40 race start. Race 2 : 1:30 broadcast start, 1:40 race start. |

Good to see some better known drivers getting involved in the series. The cars look quite smart and the times look fast. Can someone give me a quick summary of the car's spec and the reason for starting the series ? How does this compare to A1GP ?
I've been to two of their races at Brands Hatch and thoroughly enjoyed them. |

Car specs
Panoz DP09 chassis - slicks, wings and ground effect. None of this traction control malarky. 750 horsepower V12 by Meynard. As for the reason, don't know but it's got some of the people and the same basic idea as Premier 1 but without the stupidity (P1 wanted fifteen races in year one). |

I watched the live stream today for qualifying, even though it wasn't meant to work in the UK. But let's see what happened on race day.

The live timing worked fine, but you had to know who was driving for which club and at the moment I don't.
Race 1 results here. Race 2 results here. For a first weekend, I'd say that was a pretty good result. Sure, there were some reliability problems and not everything worked like clockwork, but as I see it all credit to the organisers. |
