The problem is Nick that we are not Norway or Finland or Sweden, nor even Germany and in the main the month by month requirements are just not the same. If I was in Scandinavia I would have been running winter wheels and tyres for a couple of months by now (the The Swedes always used to point out that that regulation alone did not stop them having lots of accidents in the first couple of frozen weeks of winter.) As I type this it's 12C outside. Almost spring like temperatures. As it has been most of the time for weeks. Last time we had some really cold weather and before XMAS as I recall I bought a packable snow shovel and some ice "socks" to fit over the wheels of the car. So far neither have been used - must be 4 or 5 years now. Motorway driving skills? Motorways are the safest roads we have - presumably people's skills are not so bad no matter how appalling we may think they are. And if you live in Thurso or Penzance exactly how are you going to obtain the required seat time to make the grade by assessment? Come to that, pick your days well and you could clock up hundreds of hours on the M25 without ever learning anything other than how to be patient sitting in a queue. A decade ago I spent a lot of time trying to analyse the RTA records. I was surprised how little it was possible to deduce from what was available and so far as I can see it's the same today, albeit with lower numbers of fatalities. One would have more chance of guessing Iain's fastest qualifying lap time and finishing position the first time out in the Escort. |

If it's of any help to anyone I have a copy of the Ford AVO parts catalogue for 1974 from which I could copy pages - or copy the whole thing if it's of interest.

Brake master resivoir turned up yesterday. One of the motor factor drivers found one for me.
I fired up the engine just before Christmas and the oil presure was sky high. It was a good ten years ago I built the engine on the Escort and must admit could not remember much about the oil pump.Anyway yesterday in between jobs me and Martin set to and dropped the subframe and sump and hey ho I had fitted a nice new high flow oil pump. We pulled it apart and the relief plunger was stuck solid. Thew a std pump on and all is fine now.Grrrrrrrrr. |

Crankshaft pulley is 25 ft lbs per Miles Wilkins' book. Or 3.45 kg/m if you are European!
I have a friend in York with loads of spares so will ring him at his garage on Monday. Exactly which P14s do you need because I think there are several varieties. |

P14s as fitted to early Lotus Cortina is what am looking for. The particular car is one of last Mk1s and currently has P16, which could be original as am told fitted from late '65. (You will am sure know if that is correct or not!) BUT not homologated until 1966 so for HTP inspection and pics need earlier type....... |

Last minute winter project for me. Due to unforseen circumstances I now have the opportunity to build a proper garage, however, clearing the existing one is becoming quite a task. Shipped the car off to my mates garage but mine still appears to be full! Apparently it must be a Tardis as there is way more in there than I expected. So far I've filled 3 large shipping crates with parts etc that are to be kept, I'm trying to be a bit ruthless but I just know whatever I throw away will be needed this season. New garage will be larger to accomodate another car but I think I'll still be shy of work area. Ho hum. Skip arrives tomorrow.
Don't know why the picture doesn't show? |

Brakes all bleed up on Escort, Clutch cable fitted so a test run is on the cards tomorrow. Its only taken me ten years to build this car. Sadly she will have to go away untill next winter as proper work awaits.
