Would be interesting to track the crowds from 2009 to 2016
Downward spiral noted!

Interesting listening to an interview with Warburton today where he looks at the reasons why Homebush failed; he quotes time of year and the heat, dealing with three different authorities at Homebush and then finally he touches on poor viewing for paying spectators, a factor that he is very confident in overcoming at Newcastle.

Strange that the time of year was being sold as a strength of the event yet know its highlighted as something that was outside of its control.

Is the heat any worse than Adelaide, Ipswich, Melbourne etc?

Seems like a bit of a cop out and avoidance of the real issue.

Would be keen to hear Mr Warby elaborate on his challenges with dealing with the different authorities as that sounds a little vague and finger pointing for mine.

The heat at Homebush was killer if you were in an uncovered stand or GA.The whole area was concreted so you got the radiated heat from that amplifying the ambient temperature.I have been to those other venues and except for a few November Adelaide days nothing compared to the heat of Homebush.
As far as dealing with the different authorities some of them were outright opposed to the race and charged Supercars ludicrous sums for rental of facilities leading to farces like the tent support race pits during the great floods of the 2014 event.
The GA was terrible during the first few years.I know a lot of people who went GA once but I don't know anyone who went GA more than once.By 2012 when a lot of the grandstands and corporate stands had disappeared and opened up a lot of improved GA the punters had left the building determined to never return.
By the way the lead letter in the SMH on Saturday was from a Newcastle resident vehemently opposed to the race for reasons reminiscent of Save Albert Park.
