I have an almost heraldic interest in helmets (see the Giacomelli question). Eddie Irvine got to F3000 before he decided to get a design, I don't think anyone else has ever got that far since without their own imprint.
Curiously Byrne DID have a design in F3, with a red stripe over the top, before he got to F1... OK, another helmet one? Jean-Pierre Jarier's helmet was green with a white stripe. The stripe was meant to make it distinctive; the green was in honour of whom? |

No. Pryce went with plain white, adding five black stripes early on so his dad could recognize him more easily. Nothing like Jarier's.

I may as well give the answer and let Steve ask one...
...Jarier made a simple mistake. He always thought Clark had dark green rather than dark blue. I suppose in those days of black and white photography and primitive colour printing it was an easy mistake to make... |
