Gerard should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Although there's still one race to go, what do you think are the highlights of this season.

I have three:

1. Jenson Button's performance in his first season. I remember a lot of people, inside and outside the sport, were saying he's too young, he has little experience and he will face a hard time.
I think he has done very well with BMW Williams this season and consider him a star of the future.

2. Mika Hakkinen's overtaking manoeuvre at Spa-Franchorchamps. I know, it may sound pathetic to think this is one of the highlights of the season but I have to face it, there weren't that many spectacular passes this year and this one has to be one of the best.

3. The way the US Grand Prix impressed me. I guess you had to be there to really know how it was but what I saw on television, I was very much impressed with the atmosphere. Especially the view of the grandstands is something I won't forget.

What are your highlights of the season?

F1 testing at Silverstone - watching Lemarie and Manning throw the BAR all around the place - and into the gravel a couple of times... they were like a couple of boy racers in their XR3's!

As for the racing - it sucked as it has done for the past few years. Bring back Mansell - he'd liven it up (but please let's ban him from being interviewed...) Failing that, let's get Montoya in as he is the closest driver I can think of to Mansell. What's that ? Did someone say we were ? Woohoo!! Ask me this question in 12 months time and I may have a different oppinion on the sport...

Speaking of highlights...

1 - SURE Jenson Button. He has a still long way to go, and we can predict he might be a star in the future. Time will tell.

2 - TGF X Cranky Mika. Yes I know sometimes it seemed to be something scheduled, but we have many moments (including non-race) that worth the year, and that includes THAT overtaking (like it was the only one all through the championship...). After all the number 2000 is really magic...

I would like to say something about the US GP, but I think it is still something to the next year(s)...

Oh, and away from the F1 circus itself, how could I possibly forget Jenson and Johnny at Goodwood ? (and i'll definately not forget Mike Gascoyne tonking the Jordan into the straw bales!!! )

Standing in pitlane at the EJ10 party at Donington whilst the Jordans were on their hotlaps - and then the pitstops....!!

Finally, standing on Paddock Hill bend way back in April and watching the Thoroughbred GP cars - Martin Stretton drifting the six-wheeler round every lap. And then, later in the year, standing on the infield at Druids hairpin during the BOSS F1 round whilst modern day F1 cars screamed all around...

No, F1 is definately still a spectacle - but one can only imagine it when there was overtaking during races...

3. Monza!! I know it was a tragic weekend but it was a damn good race when it got going! Sad about the marshall and everthing but actually it was the best race ive seen, actin wise!! Oh and the might JB ermm sort of lost control of his car which was pretty good!! (im glad no-one was hurt when he did that, by the way, just incase u all think im a heartless cow)

Monaco, until Frenzy went to sleep and ran into the wall.

Hockenheim and Rubens' storming drive to victory from 18th place.

Um, that's about it.

Monza GP. Post race press conference.
Belgian GP. Lap 41.

Maybe I shall just watch the second part of the races from now on.

MH and DC overtaking TGF at Spa and Magny-cours respectively where THE highlights, but also DC on Barrichelo at Silverstone.

Any part of the German GP.

The qualifying sessions at Imola and Suzuka.

Suzukas race, because even though I am a Mclaren fan watching the two best drivers in the world on the edge in damp conditions and never more than a few seconds apart was incredibly absorbing.

I've just realsied that qualifying has given almost as much excitement as the races, which perfectly shows the current probs with F1.

1st.) The lightning-thinking, well done, overtaking from MH to TGF.

2nd.) RB's Nürburgring victory -though I'm a MH fan.

3rd.) The qualifying session at Suzuka.

Attending my first ever Grand Prix at Silverstone.Me and a mate went down with a tent and lots of Lager, but spent the weekend sleeping in the car for fear of drowning
But the weather could not dampen how much I enjoyed it !

Mika overtaking TGF the other side of Trulli.

DC giving TGF the finger still makes me laugh thinking about it now

number 1 highlight of the season - DC fails to make an all season impact once again. With a top car, starting with Mclaren 1998, 1999 and 2000,.... thats 3 years in a row he fail badly given the chance that he has.

number 2- the supposedly heroes of 1999 (accidental heroes), Ralf and HHF,.. getting outperformed by their "underdog" team mates in a number of races.

number 3- M Schumacher has finally done what he is expected to deliver on his 2nd year with Ferrari (1997)

1. Ralf finishing on the podium in Australia

2. Ralf finishing on the podium in Belgium

3. Ralf finishing on the podium in Italy

There are actually others:

4. The BMW doing so well in it's first year (and of course, Williams doing so well)

5. TGF taking Ferrari's first WDC since 1979.

freud has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
In the order:

1. Hakkinen's overtaking manouvere at Spa and pole lap at Imola.

2. Barrichello's win at Hockenheim.

3. Villeneuve's handling of BAR.

4. Michael's first lap shunt in front of the grandstands at Hockenheim and his tears after Monza.

5. Button's qualifying laps at Spa and Silverstone.

6. The Orange Arrows team.

7. DC coming back strongly after his horrific plane crash.

Let's see...

Last season of the Millennium (ending juuuuuuust great with a Ferrari double! Not yet, but just you wait!

First season after so many years when Ferrari did not chase another team! They were leaders from the beginning and it took half of the season for McLaren to catch. (four DNFs for Michael Schumacher and he was still leading!!!!! I say, that's amazing!)

The way Ferrari and McLaren dominated. They got 72% of the total points and 81% of possible points four cars could get. Impressive and worrying. Another team who impressed me was Arrows.

that V10 engine limitation (poor Toyota)

Highlights: The first three races. Then Europe, then Montreal. Then the final hat-trick (well Monza wasn't, MS's victory was marred by that accident at Curva della Rogia). And Ralf's podiums. The overtaking, there wasn't much but when it came it was worth it. Especially those by Messrs Schumacher and Schumacher. Although I can't take anything away from Hakinnen for Spa (although I still think he was completly looney for attemptimg something that could have potentially taken three cars out at 100mph).

The best, Michael's World Champion for Ferrari!!!!!!!!
Although next time I could do without the mid-season drama. I think he'd been spending too much time with Bernie....

Rest In Peace, Tony Roper

1) My first Formula One race in person: the 2000 SAP United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis. To have a great crowd, a great race, the Ferraris 1-2, with HHF 3rd, Jacques 4th (could have been 3rd). Just incredible.
On a side note, part of that was going to the Sprint Car race Friday night and coming within feet of Parnelli Jones, James Garner, and Tony George. Also, the trip up to Indy with my family was interesting and rather fun, even though the airline lost my luggage.

2) Barrichello's emotional win in Germany. No one thought of him as a contender after qualifying 18th. But, with luck, pit strategy and great car control (in the rain on "slicks"), he did great.

3) M. Schumacher winning WDC number 3 at Suzuka. A race lacking passing, but spellbinding nonetheless.

4) Hakkinen's pass on TGF at Spa. What an incredible move, no matter what the people say about it being dangerous.

5) Qualifying at Suzuka. Mika and Michael going balls-to-the-wall to best each other, with Michael winning by 0.009 sec. You could even tell on the TV that they were absolutely flat-out. One would set a quick time and the other would just shake his head, smile, and then go out and best it.

6) BMW and partly Jenson Button win the surprise of the year award. After the hype about BAR, BMW took the opposite approach and didn't play up their chances. They did their talking out on the track, where it matters. Button makes this fellow 20-year-old green with envy.

(Nos. 2 through 5 could go in any order.)

Nr. 1 moment: The canadian gp.
Just because I'm a verstappen fan. I went mad when he was sixth, screaming at the tv that he must slow down, it's rainy, take no more risks. And what does he do: overtake jet another car. It was a crazy moment, my favourite driver overtakes someone and I scream NO! I sat on my knees 10 cm from the tv for the rest of the race. And when he finished it felt like he won the race.

Nr. 2 moment: MH overtaking Schumi at Spa. I just thought What the hell was that? It was great.

2000 can't compare to 1979. That was a year to remember.

This is a year when two teams raced and the rest dragged along behind, and Murray gave Mika the win by Lap 8 every race.

Yawn.

They say it will rain at Malaysia. Rain and civil unrest are about all we have to look forward to now. And Murray awarding Mika the race in Lap 2. Plus a million camera shots of Mika Salo and Pedro Diniz.

Valve Bounce has been held in scrutiny for further testing
Mika's fantastic pass of TGF at Spa,
Rubens fatastic win in Germany and the podium celebration afterwards
TGF's fantastic drive after the first pit stop at Suzuka.
It is regretable that a certain post here lists his most memorable event of the year by slagging off at David Coulthard. From all the positive posts from others here, I can only say that we pity him for his small mindedness.

It has to be Ferrari winning the WDC after 21 yrs. It really is the spotlight of the season.
something which is talked about year after year since Michael Schumacher joins Ferrari in 1996.
So nothing else comes close to Ferrari winning it.

Other sensation of this season can't match the hype created by Ferrari doing it this year.
... Runner ups- the hype about Jenson Button

hmmm.... other than Jenson Button can't think of any other things coz, they pretty much predictable. for example...

DC continues to screw up

Mika Hakkinen fast as usual

Ralf Schumacher giving steady and consistent performance

and as expected, Rubens Barichello will be under tremendous pressure driving for Ferrari and being MS' teammate. all these are expected before season starts
