Craig Baird moves to TKR.

Craig Baird has signed a 2 year deal with TKR.

The Team Kiwi motor racing team has committed itself to another serious tilt at the Australian V8 Supercar series after confirming they're to buy a new $600,000 Holden VY Supercar and engine package next year.

The new car will be built to the latest regulations comprising a new body shell design from Holden and a new Chevrolet engine.
Wonder who's going to Team Brock?

I did and advanced driving course last year with Warren Luff. He said that James Brock has been offered full time rides in V8 Supercars a couple of times but has knocked them back. He would like to build up his ability before taking on the V8s so he doesn't look like a dill and disgrace the Brock name.

good decision too Id say , hes a fairly good driver who just needs some more experience.

so Baird is going home so to speak and Jason Richards may not be there next year , so are TKR just gonna run the one car or are they gonna try for two cars again ????

They had a second car for Angus Fogg for most of last year as well, but they dropped it to concentrate on the lead car then they would bring back the second car sometime this year, only by then the they had already announced the 'chosen 36' for the remaining 2002 rounds after EC.

Team Brock is all over isn't it? They had to rob bits of the other car just to finish the season.

This is a lose-lose situation!

I don't get it.
Jason Richards had stated on more than one occasion that although he had been approached by other teams he was sticking with TKR.
Can't blame him for trying to further his career but he would need to be in a better team than any I have seen mentioned.

Personally the kindest thing I can say about Mr Baird is that he is extremely experienced.
I've never known a driver to move people to violence more than young Craig.
Hopefully he's just keeping the seat warm until someone more deserving comes along.

I am a HUGE Team Kiwi fan.
What they are doing for NZ motorsport deserves a medal but I will find it hard to cheer them on in v8supercars next year.

Just remember Craig it's "TEAM" Kiwi Racing.

Just the sort of driver we need,Go get'em Craig

Didn't Jason Richards have a 3 year contract, with a year to run?.Shows you they aren't worth the paper they are written on in motor racing.

Problem is - we don;t know the terms of the contract and what 'outs' it may have had written in to it - a performance clause, buy out, option for final year etc.

Well there was this little incdent.

Or how about the 1999-2000 NZ TraNZam series that was turned into a very expensive demolition derby.

I could go on but I am scared of litigation.

Let's this say that on more than one occasion I have seen the guy for the jumped-up primadonna he really is.

Sorry for the harsh words.
I don't make a habit of slagging off drivers!

At the CAMS Victorian Awards Dinner Peter Brock got up and made a heart-felt speech about the modern day V8 Supercar mid-fielder.

It seemed almost directly aimed at Craig Baird. Although Brocky never mentioned anyone's name.

Brocky stated that it seemed that these mid-field drivers "walk around in their Oakley sunglasses, sipping on their drink bottles, using a lot of buzz words and always looking at the data!"

He stated that he couldn't understand how these drivers were able to constantly aportion the blame to other people.

"Well if I was given a car that could do, X, then I would put it on pole."

He went on to talk about the perfect world theory and that the front 6 drivers knew how to set-up a car through a combination of data, skill and feel.

It was at this point that I knew Craig Baird would not be driving for Team BROCK anymore. It also gave me a good understanding of what can separate a champion driver and a good driver.

I wish I could have taped this speech to show people, because Brocky was extremely passionate about what he was saying. He was addressing a group of people that he has known since the days of the Austin A30, and it came across that way.

I would like to know your thoughts on the BAIRD/BROCK relationship,

thanks

Cam

Every time I've heard Brock talk about Baird he done nothing but has sung his praises. I was quite surprised by just how appreciated Baird seemed to be by PB...

I never really saw Baird as the kind of driver that was well matched with Brock's ethos
