Track and Road Cars - Regulation question
I've trawled the previous thread with interest.
BARC SE have seen fit to post all of their championship details to all members hence I've just come across this series. I normally run in Group 1 Touring Cars. Looking at the regs it would appear that my '82 Escort RS1600i would fit in either class D modified or potentially class D roadgoing. Now I reckon that my semi-antique car would be anihilated in modified as I'm guessing that far newer machinery would be in that category on slicks etc. However I note that my car is not very far away from roadgoing spec: Roadgoing specifies that the car must have a current MOT. Now I could fit a horn and rig up a windscreen washer and my car would pass a daylight MOT (not a std MOT as my running lights and fogs are not legal). Are the organisors allowing (or even aware of) a daylight MOT? The other requirement for roadgoing is interior trim, as the regs mention that carpets, headlining and passenger seats may be removed, then I'm guessing that they mean retention of std dash, door cards but rather usefully they have forgotten to list what they actually require in the regs. eg What if I remove the carpet trim from the interior of the tailgate? etc. Anyone running in Roadgoing care to comment? |

Road going is as set out in the regs, must have or be an MOT eligible vehicle,no allowance for daylight mot's as you put it.By the way, dont think that roadgoing is a lot less competertive than class D, his Lordship would be in your class and he's no slow coach,or you could run in class D alongside my 1972 antique Ford Escort, there are also a few nondescript Fiesta's but not much to worry you, come and join us in class D,I did say D and I hope the BARC note my class this year,it is great fun in the whole series, sure you would enjoy it!

Ecktic,
Thanks for the reply. The thing is, the regs are extremely vague for the roadgoing class. A daylight MOT is perfectly legal and valid (and can be obtained from your local MOT station) and the regs just specify that the vehicle has an MOT and not which kind. The same vagueness applies to the amount of interior trim required. I wasn't suggesting that roadgoing isn't competitive I just don't want to have to fork out for new wheels and tyres. The regs even specify that my Dunlop Formula R's are valid for roadgoing. It would appear that the regs have been written to encourage existing Group1 cars to enter. And I'm all for that. Perhaps I'll just enter into class D modified and see what the tech scrut has to say! |

That's the idea. Enter it, and see what the rulebenders have to say.
It's the attitude I'm taking with Britcar - I was hoping to be at Brands (in the T & R series) with the car next week, so James (EERC) and his men can have a look and give it the nod. but missed out on an entry by being too lazy filling my forms in. Still, if gives me a little more time to get the car ready for Silverstone, and then drag the car to the next EERC test day. Rob. |

apguy, why dont you enter roadgoing, see what the powers to be have to say on race day,if the answer is no,change to class D,they changed my car last year from one class to another without me knowing. I still thoroughly enjoyed the racing, met a lot of new people and found it the most friendly of atmosperes from the organising club down to all, just come and join in.
