Hmmmm. I remember seeing this before, but can't remember where. I'll have to trace it again though because it explained the points system. I remember it's some sort of weighted points arrangement. I'll get back to you on that, if my memory doesn't let me down.
So I'll get back to you on that, as long as my memory doesn't let me down.

I believe the idea behind it is to provide ranking points, like you get in Tennis or Golf. Each series is given a weighting dependant on the class of the competion and the drivers score points on a rolling 52 week basis. ie the current rankings should cover Sept '99 to Aug 2000.

As I recall the top 'weighted' series are F1, CART and NASCAR, but as CART and NASCAR are truely competetive, in that you get a lot of different winners, its usually an F1 driver on top. I don't think that the quality of machinery driven in a given series is taken into account in the calculation of the points.

It seems to me like those rankings are a load of rubbish. I recall TGF winning it in 1997 depite not being WDC and trying to run Villeneuve off the track.

But then...

I believe last year's had Ralf down as the 10th best driver in the world (if that's what they are meant to signify). Alain Menu used to feature strongly in there in 1997.

There's a couple of interesting things in the list.

For example Mazzacane is ranked higher than Gene.
And while Alesi is the last F1 driver, Heidfeld is the 13th.

Valve Bounce has been held in scrutiny for further testing

That list is like a lamp post for drunks to lean on!! They are mere opinions and as Mario Andretti said: "Opinions are like *******s; everyone has a different one."

Pretty stupid list. If differences in machinery are not taken into consideration, then what is? Once you get past the top F1 drivers, the ranking makes no sense whatsoever.
Example: Jacques Villeneuve is rated 72nd, behind such drivers as Patrick Carpentier, Karl Wendlinger, Bruno Junquiera and several tin top drivers and IRLers.
