2012 Bet 'Em Up Contest - St Pete

Hello, folks! Tim hasn't been around the IndyCar discussion for long, so I thought about revamping the Pick 'Em Up Contest. This format will be much easier to play and track, and at the same time will reward unlikely bets.

Yes, this year we are betting money! $ 1,830 to be precise. Each possible result is a bet. Therefore, the stakes depends on the pick. So hanging with Power or Franchitti for the win will result in safe bets with little gain, whereas going for Jakes might give you a considerable advantage.

The bets are six:
o- Peak Polesitter ($ 300)
o- Firestone Fast Six ($ 100)
o- Win ($ 1,000)
o- Podium ($ 300)
o- Top 5 ($ 100)
o- Top 10 ($ 30).

Bets are double and expanded for Indianapolis:
o- Peak Polesitter ($ 600)
o- First Three Rows ($ 200)
o- Win ($ 2,000)
o- Top 5 ($ 600)
o- Top 10 ($ 200)
o- Top 15 ($ 60).

The stakes will change along the year, depending on the skills of the drivers, the performance of the teams, and the power of the engines. The stakes for St Petersburg are these:

o- 3 to 1: Franchitti, Power.
o- 5 to 1: Barrichello, Dixon, Kanaan.
o- 10 to 1: Andretti, Briscoe, Castroneves, Hunter-Reay, Rahal.
o- 20 to 1: Bourdais, Hinchcliffe, Pagenaud, Servi�*, Wilson.
o- 40 to 1: Carpenter, Hildebrand, Sato, Tagliani.
o- 100 to 1: Conway, Viso, Kimball, De Silvestro, Jakes, Legge, Newgarden.

So if you bet Kanaan for the pole, Wilson for the fast 6, Franchitti for the win, Barrichello for the podium, Andretti for the top 5 and Bourdais for the top 10, then by hitting each of the six results you win $ 1,500, $ 2,000, $ 3,000, $ 1,500, $ 1,000 and $ 600 respectively, totalling $ 9,600.

Daisy and WAT picked Castroneves for the win and $ 10,000. Barnett got Dixon for the podium and $ 1,500, whereas Daisy and WAT got Hunter-Reay and $ 3,000. Nobody picked a top 5 correctly. NaBUru38 chose Pagenaud for the top 5 and earned $ 600, whereas Daisy and WAT chose Viso for the top 10 and got $ 3,000.

So here's the 2012 Bet'Em IndyContest results at St Pete:

1st - Daisy: 900 + 1,000 + 10,000 + 3,000 + 0 + 3,000 = $ 17,900
2nd - WAT: 0 + 0 + 10,000 + 3,000 + 0 + 3,000 = $ 16,000
3rd - Flyin Ryan: 900 + 2,000 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 = $ 2,900
4th - Barnett: 900 + 0 + 0 + 1,500 + 0 + 0 = $ 2,400
5th - NaBUru38: 0 + 1,000 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 600 = $ 1,600
6th - Chiana: 900 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 = $ 900

Daisy hit 5 out of 6 results and eartn 82% out of the maximum earnings. WAT also chose Hélio as the winner and chases him closely. The remaning four betters are very far behind.

The thing is, safe bets give you little money. Gambling Hélio for the win and Viso for the top 10 gave Daisy and WAT an edge. But it's a risky move, so they could have failed too.

You hitted Power for the Fast Six and Pagenaud for the top 10, so you earned 300 + 600 = $ 900, which means you are tied with Chiana on 6th place.
