I have never heard of West, Mild Seven or B&H
Here in Romania I have never heard of some of the sponsors in F1(and I bet you haven't heard of the Jordan sponsors other then B&H). Wasn't there a point to market products worldwide, especially with a coverage like F1?
I don't want to start another topic since I'm talking 'bout West. Last years there were rumours that West will quit Pons MotoGP. Than they started winning. West is quitting McLaren and they are 2 for 2. Is West sponsoring anybody else, so I can place a sure bet in the eventuality of their imminent retirement? |

I thought West fags were big in central/eastern europe, I smoked them when I was there (though not in Romania). Jordan sponsors - I know most of them. Mild seven is big in the far east. Though your point is valid - Luckies are rare in the UK - if they exist at all, same with West. Still all about awareness I guess

yeah good point, i hope with all the health work major groups are doing is working more powerfully than the advertising of tobacco in sport.
Really, if tobacco has ever done anything good for us, its bringing on a nice livery on the current McLarens. AND THATS IT. |

Benson and Hedges are pretty familiar here. I'm certainly glad I enver started smoking though, it's a filthy thing that's killed memebers of my family before their time.

Mild Seven is, I believe, a subsidiary of Japan Tobacco, who also own Camel, hence the rumours a year or so back that Renault would revive the famous Camel livery (which happens to be yellow, the Regie's favoured hue).

I do believe West are owned partly by Mercedes.
I heard this a while back and found it most strange. |

I have never run across West or Mild Seven in the states or while living and traveling alot on business outside it. Marlboro was my brand for years including some that had obviously been tossed off a ship to Pakistani smugglers. You could see the telltale water marks on the packages, and they tasted funny. B&H is pretty well known around the world also.

'555' is another BAT cigarrette brand that used to prominantly be displayed on the Subaru WRC rally cars, also on BAR in 1999.
I believe they are a Japanese brand, though thats just a guess. |

A lot of cigarette companies are part of bigger tobacco conglomerates. And either due to laws or previously existing markets/brands, that's why some brands are never seen. You won't see 555 here in Canada for example, because Players is already an entrenched seller. Both are owned by BAT (British American Tobacco). I don't know the other connections though.

And, CleanTone, you certainly have heard of the brand Hollywood there in Romania... it belongs to Souza Cruz which belongs to B.A.T .
In my city, B.A.T has the biggest factory in Latin America. Last edited by Bononi; 25 Mar 2003 at 20:52. |
