Yes, John, I agree that Sagan's punishment was overly harsh. As well as those 3 we lost other top riders - Rafal Majka from a crash, Richie Porte, - his crash was horrendous and in the later stages Marcel Kittell, and there were others.
Mike, I was trying to motivate myself to head up to Cadwell today as the VSCC meeting there is such a good one. It's only about 60 minutes away but in the end just couldn't get myself moving! |

Like many other old riders I find it difficult to watch Froome's ungainly riding style. A far cry from Coppi, Koblet and Baldini etc. I also wish he'd tackle the one day classics or maybe the 'Giro D'Italia' a generally harder race than The Tour. But then this is the age of 'the specialists' unfortunatly

I'm watching the run into Paris on telly, as a racing friend has just done the London to Paris ride in aid of Prostrate Cancer. He was in the competitive group, so some achievement! He's promised to wave to the cameras from the side of the Champs Elysees.....
If anyone is interested in donating, pm me and I'll send you a link to his just giving page. |

Cadwell was like the curates egg .. good in parts. Sunshine, clouds, rain and heavy rain, followed by more sunshine. The Morgan drivers donated £200 towards the Prize Draw, MGCC and VSCC did not donate. Gary C has given me three superb A3 photos of North Yor5kshire. Brands Hatch Morgans have donated a Sweat shirt and silk scarf. I also have been promised a bottle of Pimms what ever that is. A nice lady marshal asked me if I was Mr Bauble, as she knew he was going to be at Cadwell! After a mere 80 years I'm famous in Lincolnshire. Hurrah. See ya Friday - if I can get in. |

Missed a good event John! Bit damp in the afternoon but good value as usual from the VSCC.

Croft today ended up a bit wet, too - our Future Classics event started in light spots of rain, but by the time I took over about half distance (40 minute race) it was getting wetter and my race-partner described it as "slippy"......which turned out to be a degree of understatement - spun on the first of my laps, kept it on the island thereafter, but it got wetter and wetter and the screen got misted - not helped by my inability to find where my mate had hidden the switch for the newly installed demister ( on the panel just behind my left hand, as it turns out........)
Chequered flag thrown a few minutes early as by this time a 944 and a 911 RSR were buried backwards in the barrier after the chicane...... The last race (mainly Caterhams) looked more like a power-boat race than a car race.......wouldn't have wanted to be driving one of them! |

After a busy weekend at Rissington kart track, it was back home Sunday, bath, food then drive through the night to Dover and the ferry to make the 90 years of Menin Gate ceremony in Ypres. Very moving, very British ceremony and slightly surreal to have all the old British Remembrance favourites played by a Belgian band in the middle of a bustling Belgian town. I've not seen the Gate before, and Mrs MM laid a wreath to her great uncle who is listed there. Missed out on kwassants but currently drinking Belgian beer which makes up for it!

I clicked on an ad on my screen for the movie 'Dunkerque'. It turned out to be an ad for a chain of cinemas in Paris. However, amongst all the other films listed is a Clint Eastwood film called 'Overdrive', due out in August.
I've not heard of it, but the poster features AC Cobra, Ferrari 250 GTO etc & the spiel mentions a 1937 Bugatti. Anybody else know it? |

Having now seen a trailer for the film, I don't think I'd bother - looks like James Bond meets Top Gear. |

I hope that I am not putting my foot in it, but the tea break hasn't had any input from a couple of old regulars for some time, the Compte and Graham 917. I hope that they are both well.
Whilst navel gazing earlier today, I wondered how Graham was getting on with the Lola, so that he had 3 mouth watering cars ready for track action? |

From the reviews of 'Dunkirk' here it sounds like a must see film. One critic recommended that we choose somewhere to view it with very good sound quality if possible, as the score deserves it. Me, I'm waiting for Cars 3 and DM3, but in the meantime 'Captain Underpants' is getting good reviews......

Yes John, I saw the teaser of Overdrive (allocine). Hope the Atlantic 57S Bug', the GTO and some others like the Cobra, pre A 356, Alfa 158 are replica! Seems director is Antonio Negret, Scott Eastwood as pointed by Peter being a character.
I wonder who are the cars suppliers… I'll go for it whatever the critics can say. |

Forgot to say how impressed I was with the Croft trackside Wifi - real luxury to sit in the car or motorhome in the paddock whilst monitoring the TSL live timing as the cars pass by on the other side of the fence!

Is that provided gratis or does it have to be paid for, Richard? Seems most circuits that started providing wifi a few years ago now sub the supply out and it is a 'pay to use' service...... Many peeps now use an ipad or whatever with sim and contract for timing. Sometimes better than circuit wifi or cable, especially if 4G available!

There were a Danish established south of France making fake Atlantic's, 2 in fiberglass and several in aluminium. He drove me along the Mont Ventoux roads with his replica of "La Cage" a de Vizcaya design coachwork by Million-Guiet based on a 37 Bugatti and probably an engine supplied by Laurent Rondoni. Impressive.
How did they manage for the Alfa? |

Very few of the cars used in that sort of thing are 'real',real for close ups, fake for stunts.Even most of the Astons in the bond films are old models, with new panels.

As to the GTO I guess they had to ask a special permission to build a replica. Italian became somewhat fussy since they established their classiche division, as some Pontiac or Datsun owners may know…

Talking of films, the Williams (racing- not Serena) documentary is out on Friday. Haven't checked yet to see where it's being shown....
