How come?

Tom.
How come indeed?!
Why is there most of the time scrutineering on the Porsches and none on the Ferraris? Why #50 & #56 aren't on that list?!

Can anyone tell me exactly what the 111 Audi G8 was? DSC calls the G2 class a "catch all" and I assume that allows them to accept interesting entries that don't actually fit in one of the other classes.

The performance of this car was impressive but is it an unrestricted GT3, a GT1 or a 2010 GT1, or a GT2?

What are the rules for G2 and if, as suggested they are a sort of "Formula Libre" for GT cars could one run, say, a McLaren F1 GTR or one of the Coupe LMP1 cars perhaps?

Just interested

Im delighted to see PK take the win over Vitaphone . Vitaphone have had their fair share of Spa wins . Good to see another winner for a change .

Nice win for AF Corse too , my favourite European Fiat team .

As I understand it, cars in G2 have to run in the specification from whichever series they come from, I believe the Audi was running in VLN spec. I'm not exactly sure whether this means they ran with less weight or more power than the GT3 version of the car.

I'm pretty sure the cars in G2 still have to be true GTs, so no prototypes, 1990s GT1 cars, etc. It's basically a catch all for cars that don't correspond to FIA GT rules, but do conform to rules of another recognised GT series.

Ive been there this weekend and it was a fantastic race once again! The battle for the lead was awesome, i stayed up nearly the whole night .

I also saw the crash of the #1 Maserati. He lost it when he went over a curbstone. Here is a video i made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkKM2v0Vh00

On the exit of Pouhon. The same place as where the IMSA Porsche had its crash.

Hard to see. All I saw were what looked like Porsche (had to be the 70) lights stopped on track....then after the slowed down replay, the rear Maserati lights as it, the #1, limped away.

It is hard to see i agree. When you turn up the sound youll understand what happends. First you see the #1 Maserati spinning and hitting the guardrail, then it spins back onto the track. A couple minutes later it starts it engine again and drives away.

I am expecting it is due to a new part or parts on the 997s for this race (unlikely anything more fundamental, as the cars constitute chassis from 3 years with various upgrade levels) which has either been flagged by the stewards or, more likely, has been the subject of inquiry from a Ferrari team as to its eligibility. This has happened in the past with both manufacturers in ACO and FIA competition, most recently before LM this year with the fender issues on the Ferrari. The Ferraris are not on the list because there likely hasn't been a question raised as to their spec. Furthermore, finishing has nothing to do with it - those are all the 997s in the race, period.

Indeed, the weight was only 1250kg. Restrictors larger than in GT3, but I don't know the exact diameter off by heart. May not have had to use the weaker GT2 control tyre either, which I gather has been robbing FIA GT2 cars of pace relative to the GT3s this year?

I'm curious, does anyone know why they made the race only 10 points this year? Seems odd that a race that is 12 times longer than any other race on the calendar is worth the same number of points as the 2 hour races. From some of the press releases of some of the other FIA-GT competitors, it seemed that the lack of points played into their decisions not to risk their equipment for 10 lousy points.

That's what I was wondering too! Thought there'd be like 3 times as much points for the Spa 24hrs!

It was always double points before? I'd assumed the same held this year.

I was wondering if the reduced point total was due to the expectation that Vitaphone (especially Bartels et al) would dominate as they did last year and, for all intents and purposes, end any drama as to who would win the championship (just like last year). Its really too bad, as double points would have definately benefited Hezemans and Kumpen in their chase for the drivers championship. The team championship trophy might as well already be engraved with vitaphone for this year.

There's been plenty of complaints in general in the past about how this one race was able to so clearly skew the overall championship results, and I would think that they wanted to avoid that charge being levied again.
