Thunderdome Fun Day - November 27 2011

Daryl Martin and AUSCAR Racing Pty Ltd Present a Fun Day on the Thunderdome at Calder Park Raceway.

Bring out your old NASCAR, AUSCAR, Sportsman, Formula Falcon or HQ to relive some of the fun of the “Dome”.

No stress, no times and no sheep stations just a fun relaxed day on the track with other owners.

Vehicles must meet normal safety standards, including safety harnesses in good condition, an in date fire extinguisher, 2nd return spring on accelerator. Drivers and passengers must have approved helmets, enclosed footwear, long pants and long sleeves all preferably fire resistant.

Entry Form and more information

BYO brush cutters & weed kill?

How many Formula Falcons were actually built? Were there any races? I remember seeing pics of a green/white one in a mag years ago.

It was initally run as a class within Sportsman (was it the 1993/94 season?), with a plan to run it on its own when the numbers got up... not sure if it happened though.

yeah the thunderdome is a bit different these days. I would be brining my own seat and a whole lot of weed killer.

I took this a few weeks ago out there.

It is sad to see the Thunderdome in decay.

I reckon they should build a road circuit within the Dome, including a Oran Park fly over in the middle somewhere. It would make the best spectator friendly track in the country and would help keep the weeds down!

Then somehow they need to get a V8 Supercar round back there, under lights! And it's only 15 minutes from the CBD.

Anyway, the Fun Day sounds like it will be a good day for those with cars.

OK, 15 minutes is an exaggeration, but once they finish building the flyovers, etc they should (hopefully) increase the speed limit, so 20 minutes may almost be a possibility, other than weekday peak hour.

Plus the track is due to have its own train station on a suburban line. That will make it hard for V8 Supercar to ignore, although it sounds like a change of track ownership may be required first.

Remember this is a 'fun day', not a full on race day, this day is intended to get the old cars out of sheds etc and back on the 'dome for a day out with some reminiscing.

Due to the likelihood of Thunder storms and a wet track this Saturday the event has been posponed until January 15th 2012.

What is the surface of the track like?
Are there many big cracks, potholes or dips and bumps??

As for V8SC comming back there... dunno. Doesn't the pit infrastructure need A LOT of work.

I remember seeing a round under lights years ago.. must have been around 1995 or so.
Last time I was out there was when lowndsey rolled it over the fence...
