To be fair (???) - governments often make decisions to throw a bit of money around for the overall good of the state or entity...gauging the benefit is the hard part, because it doesn't usually take into account things like the group who stayed with Aunty Flo but spent a motsa eating out, seeing attractions, merchandise, eventually moving the company to a particular state etc etc
This little he said, they said is interesting in retrospect... http://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/pro.../LA19950920031 |

Also anybody who thinks the Government gets $3 million back directly because they pay for Tiger Woods to come play golf once has got another thing coming. It is called investment in tourism and promotion and big events support the reason Home bush was built. Government supports all kind of bullshit I am not interested in, they may as well support some racing as well.

So the event was built on the friday and pulled down on the sunday. Visitors only stayed the two nights sounds like a bit more than 3 days to me. Maybe you should study up on economic evaluations, Something the government has done Sydney city council spend $7M bucks on the NYE fireworks, its over in minutes and definately a one night only thing. Any issues there DRT or is it just street races |

What does the economic impact assessment on the NYE fireworks recommend? What are the alternative options for entertainment options - temporary or permanent? |

We the public (and I attended both Saturday and Sunday, just as I have every year since 2009) were not served anything different last weekend than what we saw at SMP a few months back. We were served a motor race, not an event As someone who was there, the atmosphere you describe is pretty much what Homebush was like last weekend!! |

In regards to an event vs race , in 2009 took the family with me to the Gold Coast, whilst marshaling they had a ball with all the non racing activities, etc etc. fastforward after a couple years away, took them again, done and dusted within 2 hours, my son asked where has all the non race stuff gone. simple Econmics, V8 Supercars run the show now. So Sydeney was meant to be the bing bang end of season , party , hmm hate to say but from what was seen and post here and elsewhere, there seemed to be more life at wake down the road. Homebush has not made the grade, as hoped . Biggest city population in little old aus and still cant pull off a major ev ent, sorry meant major race |

From some of the comments and interviews on the weekend, it seemed a heap of people, including members of teams, all headed to the Saturday speedway to get their entertainment fix.

Which incidentally are not required at all because the races don't feature pitstops. |

V8 Supercars are also seeking a further million dollars from Victorian taxpayers in order to continue to secure events like Sandown and Phillip Island.

Could work in Geelong, and they need the boost down there. I have no issues with Government spending money to stimulate the economy and create jobs - if it creates entertainment that people will watch, all the better.

I dont understand - didn't supercars just sign their best tv deal ever? Haven't they had the biggest crowds this year? Isnt the COTF platform cheaper? Didn't the mega exposure supercars got going to austin, abu dubai etc bring in mega dollars???
Why asking for handouts eh? |
