Very long bow there....

My money is on him bringing in Lexus.....

Given the way that the whole Volvo thing has played out, you can't help but wonder if Supercars has pointed them in his direction. You have to admit that GRM has been more successful in introducing a new manufacturer than Erebus and the Kelly's. They haven't had to adjust the aero, or scrap the throttle body configurations on the engine or even holt production to get a set of cylinder heads.

The way GRM and Volvo have gone about this whole process has been almost perfect text book, apart from the few failures. Who would have known that the Volvo motor would mince the insides of the alternator from the vibrations?? But they've chalked up the wins and at the end of the day, what won on Sunday, sold on Monday and Volvo have reaped those benefits as a result.

Agreed, the Volvo program has been very successful for the length of time it's been running for.

Just a shame Sweden doesn't see the impact it's had on our local market.

Will they see the impact once the brand is gone??
One would assume yes.

Totally off topic... what is the future of the V8 Ute series?

Indeed a long bow to draw, but if Nissan do come in with their V6 in 2018, Renault could run it too. They use the GT-R engine in their RS-01 racing series. Renault probably doesn't have a big enough car they want to put the Renault Sport money behind, but it is fun to speculate...

Unfortunately I think you're dreaming. Ford is gone.

No plans to bring the Talisman on the market in Australia?
But with Nissan involved I don't think a Renault entry is likely.

I assume Toyota, VW, Hyundai/Kia.

The Renault question on HYBPA asked by Skaife was on there to catch Hamish Blake out as he was one of the guests on the show, and his actress wife being named Zoe. Hence the Renault Zoe question...

Toyota have the 86 series.

VW are rallying with the Polo.

Hyundai/Kia could do it but I just don't know how likely it is that they would spend $10m over a couple of years on a racing program.

VW Aus aren't connected to the WRC program, nor are Hyundai/Kia Aus.

Less than zero chance to see any VAG brands dropping $10m to go VASC racing.

Kia is releasing a new model next year called the GT. It's a 2 door coupe that will have either a twin turbo 3.3l V6 or a 5l V8.
Whether they have the appetite to join the series is another question.

This isn't strictly the right place for it but I think it is the closest for it...

After completely unscientific research on my ~45 minute drive to work I have raised a question... How the hell is Nissan affording their race program?

I have seen a grand total of 2 Altimas _ever_ on the road, and barely ever see any Nissans at all, those that I see are mostly Xtrails or Patrols.

Nissan seems to be solidly holding down about 7th spot, and the only cars in their respective top-10s are the Qashqai and the Patrol.

This for me begs the question where has $10m come from to go racing, from approximately 60k car sales a year? This must be a massive slice of their budget let alone their marketing budget.
