Trivia

Since the year 2000, eight drivers have appeared on the BTCC entry lists but never competed in the series (in any year, for any team). Can you name them?

Were the 'Team 48' drivers - Matt Gore and Darnelle Wilson IIRC on an entry list? I can't remember

David Pinkney at Rob Austin Racing as well must be one, he arrived but didn't hit the track iirc?

Pinkney competed in 1989, 1993, 2001, 2006-7, 2009-10 and technically did half a lap in the rolling up laps before Race 3 at Brands Indy in 2011, so I wasn't counting him.

Matt Gore and Darrelle Wilson are two of the eight correct answers. Both appeared on the entry list for Team 48.

Mark Hazell is also correct, five more to get.

Dang, didn't read your opening post correctly and just fired off Pinkney as soon as I remembered him oops!

Darren Malkin and, I think, Phil Andrews were entered in 2001 but never raced.

I'm pretty sure Richard Cuene-Grandidier ("Kermit") was entered in 2000.

Mark Hazell is a thoroughly nice bloke. He kinda has almost a James Hunt vibe about him.

Antonio Russo was meant to be in a third GA Alfa in 01 but didn't race

Could the last one be Nick Adcock who was gonna race the second Xero Lexus in 08?

TBH, although they were not on the entry list there have been plenty of ones who were strong possibilities who didn't race

In 04 James Hanson was going to race a Carly BMW. (I think his teammate was going to be Tom Ferrier)

In 07 I think Colin Neil was going to race one of his CVR Chevys, although the less said about that the better

In 09 Volvo planned to do a few selected rounds with Dahlgren. Also who was the one planned to race the Alfa that year? He never raced either

Then in 2010 Shaun Hollamby was going to share the driving of his AMD Golf with Simon Shaw, but in the end only Hollamby drove

Finally in 2012 TGR were going to race a couple of Vectras with Ash Shuttlewood and Rob Hedley doing the driving, before selling the cars on to ES Racing before the season even started

If you were doing a list of drivers/teams who've said they were going to enter at some point the list would be in the hundreds.

I actually overlooked Antonio Russo - so by my count there's another two to get still!

I'm only really going for those who made a proper plan to enter.

Let me have another guess: Richard Dean (2002)

Rob Hedley in the Thorney car?

Hamilton raced in 08, so he wouldn't count under thetool's rules

Yes he did try and race his self built Ford Mondeo in 99, but was miles off the pace in testing. I think he may have also tried to enter 93 in a Sapphire. I used to wonder if he and the other Gareth Howell were related, but probably not

As for the question, I've been thinking does Dave Pitcher count? He entered his Honda in 2000, but never raced, although according to Wiki he DNSed for the first meeting of the year, so does that count as competing?

David Pitcher was on the list, yes. From memory he turned up at Brands with an Integra in a horsebox but didn't make it through scrutineering.

Just one left!

OK it's been nearly three weeks since the thread started and we can't work out who the last one is, so I think it's safe to say we've given up.

Have to be honest, never heard of that one before.

Who wants to do a question now?
