Dome LMP Discussion

I have just found an article on the the Dome website ( www.dome.co.jp/news/news/dt_78b.html) that Dome have started the development of their totally new car, the S102. Of course it is a closed prototype. The shackdown is planned for spring 208. There is also a pic which show the ideas fro the engineers. The look will change after CFD and wind tunnel tests.
I say really good news ad an amazing car.

Regards

Markus

There is a bigger version of their render. Looks pretty good. How competitive do we all think it will be?

Very intreesting looking car - lets hope they actually have the money to develop it into a viable alternative to the Lola option

Jan Lammers says that Dome is in negotiations with a car manufacturer, so he doesn't know if he will get to race the Coupé with RfH.

I doubt that this car will ever get built if that manufacturer money is not on-board. Let's hope that they are able to strike the deal!

They build the S101 without manufacturer support.

The 101 was one of the fastest cars clocked each year at Le Mans.

What I meant (sorry, I was a bit telegraphic) is that without solid support the project can end up like the 101/101.5 in the long run, even when the car is quick. They need a cash injection if you ask me.

Your right, with the correct backing their is nothing to say it won't be a capable car. I hope. Variation is always welcome.

Nice looks! I wonder how much it'll change between now and the first time it hits the track. Of all the closed-tops we've seen so far, this is surely one of the best looks-wise, isn't it?

TBH, I think better funded teams need to do all they can to buy a factory chassis or engine, whether it be P1 or P2.

Only the Pescarolo and Lola are worth taking a risk on, the rest aren't particularly quick, and unforgivably, unreliable.

The RfH Dome was always one of the best privateer cars (speed & reliability) at Le Mans. Since 2000 from all regular private LM teams it's in my opinion 2nd best behind Pescarolo. In this time period only two times a Lola finished in top 10.

RfH Dome results:
2001 DNF (engine)
2002 8th (best privateer)
2003 6th (2nd best privateer)
2004 7th (2nd best privateer)
2005 7th (2nd best privateer)
2007 DNF (crash)
2008 25th

Not bad for an underfunded team.

So at Le Mans I would prefer a Dome over a Lola. LM(E)S is another story....

I am convinced Dome is able to design and build a quick an reliable car. They only need one or more well funded teams to run the car.

I think RfH would be a little disappointed in your prediction of 25th for next year already. But know something I/we don't know about next year, hope they find away to bring the new coupe for Dome for LM 2008, esp with a major manufacturer behind them.

I reckon Dome build a pretty good car ..... just maybe needs a bit more cash to fine tune it , much like Courage imo .

See the 'BMW V12 Modify' in the museum there? Did that ever race?

Looks like aero tweaks to the BMW LM car of the same era.

I honestly can't see this car being done in 2008, at least for the start of the season. Lola's been working on the B08/60 for quite some time now and the first chassis still is not finished. I can't see Dome doing it any quicker.

I'm wondering since we have not seen the Lola Coupe yet that it might not be because Lola is waiting on the 2010 rules. So they get a more definitive direction and a more fruitful year of development on the car towards the rule set. Probably not a complete tub rework but a more compliant front bodyworks/aero work up.

The first B08/60 is due to be completed in the next few months.

Lola has a lot of things to do at once, so they can't concentrate on one thing. They have sportscars and spares for sportscars to build, and many, many single seaters to build.
