Toro Rosso-Ferrari

OK, so we know STR are using last year's spec Ferrari engine (presumably the same spec as Ferrari had at Abu Dhabi). But presumably the engines themselves are newly-built? They aren't old engines from the back of the SF15-T?

as in new or rebuilt engines used last year by Ferrari?

good question. i would hope they are newly built.

follow up question, are Ferrari continuing development work of the 2015 spec engines or will the engines STR have for the first race be the same build they have at the last race of 2016?

I think that I have read elsewhere that Ferrari will be supplying 2016 units at a later date during the year, although they will always be at least one "step" behind the works engine. However, the software may not always be as up-to-date as Ferrari and Haas are using.

Although there had been reports that Toro Rosso would be receiving updated units later in the year, it seems as though that has now been ruled out by the team because that would mean they would have to build a B-spec car to take the 2016 unit, and they will not be doing that.

They also say that Ferrari had told them at the time of the signing of contracts that they wouldn't be upgrading the 2015 units during the year.
