Nordschleife Chicane

Hi all. I'm trying to create the definitive map of the Nurburgring Nordschleife for e-Tracks, but I've come a bit unstuck at the final chicane (Damn chicanes!). I think I have a good take on what the original Hohenrain chicane was like, but I'm told this is not how it is today. Anyone got any decent pics/track maps/satellite images. The map I'm creating is based on a satellite scan for accuracy, but it's not too high quality and there are too many other roads and built-up stuff in that area for me to see exactly how the track goes. Anyone able to help?

there was this awsom site i remember going on years ago about the Nordschleife. It had full screen maps of each corner showing details of bumps, curbs, shadows, racing lines etc. I think it was all done by some ex-racer. I'll try to find it for you..

Maybe I can help. As I work in Germany and we run a few cars at the Ring, it can't be this hard to find out how the thing looked like. I have enough "old" driver friends here who should know. I suppose you mean the chicane at the end of Döttinger Höhe?

Yes, I mean the Hohenrain chicance. I think I've now got a good handle on what it looks like, but I'd be glad to know I was right!

Well, the picture from the website is quite accurate it seems, the "new" chicane is now just about where the track winds to the right after the trees.
It used to be a full power, very quick righthander.
I'll talk to some more guys, but it won't be easy to find pictures, as it used to be (and still is) a no go area. If needed you may always PM me.

wow that's an impressive site you linked to. The site I was raving about is this one: http://www.toxo.de/ring/nordschleife...enschwanz.html
It's very good, however it doesn't have any pictures of the chicane!

Have a look anyway.

Hmm, while these maps have plnety of detail, such as where kerbs are and how the banking is configured at Kleine Karussell and Karussell, I am positive they are way out on scale, and in many cases the basic shape of the corner is just plain wrong! This is the conclusion I have come to with the vast majority of maps after studying satellite imagery. Anyway, I guess it's put up or shut up time, so here is my Nordschleife map, complete with what I think the Hohenrain chicane looks like...

Hold on a minute! I think I misunderstood the original question. (Foreigners!) If you need the shape like it is now, it could be a lot easier. I can always hop over there and take some pictures, my office is only 35 miles away from the Ring. So should be possible to do it. If needed, let me know.

I'll be at the Karussell for the 24hr race in May... Woo hoo!

Sorry this wasn't actually anything to do with a chicane. Just wanted to rub it in.
