Selexy
All,
I'll be grateful for some help with a "Selexy". This French company produced a system called "Sequential Dexystem" in the90s, to convert an H-pattern gearbox to sequential. It used a rotating cam to move the selector arms into the appropriate positions. There was a wholly mechanical version and a hydraulic one. I have acquired one of the latter, with no documentation at all. Selexy the company has disappeared, and all I can find is an article in Race Car Engineering about the mechanical version (thanks RCE, for the photocopy!) If anyone has experience with these, I'll be most grateful. If you have documentation, please may I have a copy? Thanks John |

All,
Well that was a poser - 69 views and no answers! Luckily, I've been able to trace the original UK importer of the Dexystem, Kevin Jones of GTO Engineering, who has been most helpful. Part of the mystery is that, in Kevin's words, Selexy "did a DeLorean" - did a runner with a lot of French Government industrial setup money, AND a large order from Kevin. Nevertheless, before that they made some good kit, that works very well with a dog-box, but is so fast that it wears out selector rings. So Kevin's comments and advice have both tempered my enthusiasm and given new impetus, and we know better how to further this project using it. Thank you, Kevin! John |

Very interesting project... I have been toying with the idea also but luckily in our competitions seq.type changing is forbidden... (cost issue)
So are you able to slow it down then and do you cut sparks during gear change? Is non-hydraulic version any good? |

I remember the article on the selexy system, it was in Racecar engineering IIRC. May be there's some one there who recalls the company?
I have searched several times in the past to find them but they have no web presence. I wonder if they they ever got going. It strikes me that an external selector drum working the rods\cables of a conventional gearbox would be great, especially for the young wannabe car tuners, if not for race cars....... Scarbs |

tzei,
the plan is to set it up on a testbed, power the pump and experiment with it. Possibly springs in the links to feed the power in less abruptly. Thanks for suggesting a spark cut, if a switch can be incorporated. If you have been thinking about this, do you have a Selexy? Have you thought of arguing to your race series that your gearbox is not sequential, only the Selexy, so you CAN do it! Terveisin! John |

Hi JohnD
No I don't have Selexy (or the like) and i havent thought it since they banned it... have to look rule book again but I think they put it in there in such terms that it also rules selexy out. What type of a gearbox you are experimenting with? Just that my intrest woke again... My g.box is a getrag/ZF which has only one selector rod coming out from behind... could selexy cope here? Tzei (Lordi rules ) |

Richy,
Just another symptom of my genius. (You've never seen Colin Chapman, Smokey Yanuck and me in the same room together, have you?) But relax - this is another project. Or, when you think about it................... Tzei, I'll tell you when I have the testbed running. Don't know ZFs, but I presume that the single rod acts in rotation and plunge (twist and push/pull). Other boxes use two rods, one for each motion, at right angles to each other. The Dexystem offers two actuators in the same plane, that could work via one or two rods, which ever is required. And this project is to use a Renault UN1 gearbox. John |

Selexy for sale
I have a Selexy unit complete with an instruction/installation bookletwhich I would like to sell. It was originally sold by Taylor Engineering. I had planned to install it in my Argo GTP car for vintage racing but never got around to it.

Argo,
As I have a Selexy already, I don't want to bid for your kit. But I would be most grateful for a photocopy of the booklet, and to pay for it. Please may I see a sample of the booklet, including perhaps the contents or Index page? Please PM me to discuss this. John |

Just for everyones info - there is a company in Japan that makes a version of this (mostly for Japanese cars I am afraid) - go to:
http://www.ikeya-f.co.jp/en/index.html Edit: By the way the "Engrish" on this site is worth a look alone! A friend of mine has one of these in his Nissan 350Z Racecar that he uses in VLN at the 'Ring. He swares by it, and although I don't think it is any faster than a very good manual shift, it is 100% reliable (i.e. no missed shifts), which means you can spend more of your consentration (sp?) on everything else - which can only be a good thing at the Ring.... There is a good video going around of this being tested somewhere - I'll have a look..... Rob Last edited by Highside; 3 Nov 2006 at 09:09. |
