Mandiblard should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Funny how this doesn't get bumped after all his great overtaking in Montreal

That was my read on the situation...but level heads prevailed so was good to see Webber get some points.

I missed the Montreal GP, only saw the last few laps...was Webber a little more convincing when overtaking. Was he that high up the grid on merit or pit stops?

Actually Webber's move was for 8th, he was already in the points before Rosberg went out. One mistake and he would've ruined that for himself. But, as with so many midfield drivers, Mark was battling hard but skilfully and fairly. He just about backed out of the risky Trulli move in time.

i've just read Helmut Marko's interview regarding the driver market at the moment, and amongst other things, he regarded Mark as one of the best qualifiers on the grid.

It triggered a thought that the real question is not Mark's ability to overtake, but his ability to get the car off the line, at which he has a fairly poor record. For in theory, if he does indeed put the car above its relative pace in qualifying, then this should leave him with faster cars in front of him (and ie he wouldnt need to overtake), and battling to keep faster cars behind him.

However, when he gets bogged down and loses a few places off the grid, this leaves him battling to get past slower cars to justify his race pace. The number of times he has been stuck behind trulli, both when at williams and now at RBR are numerous, and almost every time, trulli has finished ahead of a frustrated webber.

This is something which i think trulli does extremely well - ie qualify above relative position and then battle to stay ahead of faster cars. And something TGF would do when his car was not at its peak.

Its an uphill battle repeatedly trying to come from behind in modern F1, and you probably dont garner as many points as you should....

Good point. Even back at Jaguar Marks starts have not normally been great.

Perhaps Mark needs to talk to RBR management and ecxplain for the next 6 months he is going ti bin it into any car he is trying to overtake. Get a Sato like rep then when drivers dtart showing you a wide birth...exploit the opening!
