Am I missing some joke here or am I not reading the chart right or what?

Yep you are right. Dunno what I was thinking. He was third on lap 37 and then second on 38. I do seem to recall a lot of talk on a restart about him being able to hold on maybe that is what I am remembering.

I am pretty sure Crash is right, he was the effective race leader, until the #50 car nailed him in the rear wheel up at turn 7. I am yet to hear the penalty for that stupid piece of driving...........

Laps led in 2004 after round 13.

Bathurst has not been included because the information from which I was working gave no indication of which driver was actually steering the car. Sandown is included because I was smart enough to be able to work out who was driving thanks to the #10 telecast

Ambrose 504
Bright 147
Skaife 112
R.Kelly 107
Murphy 99
Tander 44
Ritter 37
Besnard 37
T.Kelly 36
S.Richards 20
Baird 18
Radisich 17
J.Richards 16
Wills 15
Lowndes 10
Morris 8
Johnson 8
Wilson 7
Weel 6
McConville 6
Ingall 6
Noske 5
Longhurst 4
Winterbottom 3
Tratt 3
Dumbrell 3
Brede 2
Bowe 2
Bargwanna 2

Ambrose absolutely smashed 'em and very deservingly won the title.

Team Dynamik, WPS Racing and Tasman Motorsport really enjoyed gambling with the strategy and staying out the longest on many occasions gave them a higher than expected laps led count.

Ingall's lack of qualifying speed and the conservative (and effective!) strategy employed by SBR meant that he ended the season having led only one more lap than Mark Noske did!

I hope some of you were interested even a little bit in this...........

Speed Kills should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Contrasting results from the SBR cars. 1st in Championship leads 504 laps, and 2nd leads only 6.

I guess it comes back to the points system yet again. Marcos as No.1 is unquestioned, but did Ingall really deserve to be 2nd?

I just enjoyed seeing Lowndes leading a race, and on merit, for the first time since Phillip Island last year (I think).

Yeah, but leading the last few seconds on the final lap of the race is way better than leading the first few laps of the race!!
