If Dunlop are in this to promote their brand and sell tyres this weekend has been a disaster.

Interesting hearing that cars are fuelled to the finish, not sure any tyres will last that long. Scotty Mac's strategy is looking good atm.

This looks good for SM now given it sounds like most other teams still need to box again. His car pace is so good he can make up the additional fuelling time he needs. He could win this still...

Edit:

But the teams will finish the fuel now, so not going to work for SM.

Wonder if Red Bull will make the end given they're clearly unable to look after the tyre well. Possibly just driving very conservatively here on out.

Perfect race for T8 to capitalise and they fluffed it. Good day for Prodrive as best of the rest.

Ok, the cars have done the laps, now we have to wait until the morning when the boffins in "Race Control" have finalised the finishing order.

Triple Eight is reluctant for special measures to be introduced for today’s WD-40 Phillip Island 500 heat after labelling the spate of tyre failures in Race 5 as ‘self inflicted’.

“I can put a set-up on the car that will just destroy tyres, but you don’t (do it).

Mr. Dutton must have changed his mind and set up the cars to destroy their tyres after all.

Yeah, too slow to be competitive against rivals yesterday so took them gamble today which didn't pay off. Good to see them taking it on the chin and given Penske had a shocker they have gotten away with it.

Never easy to compare on day to the next with track conditions etc playing a role in ultimate pace but given the conservative settings for tyres today, there fact those Penske machines could reel off those lap times is seriously impressive. Can honestly see them dominating in the points by years end.

Has the rules on leaving the pits under safety car changed in recent years?

Obviously the red light rule wasn't in effect during this safety car period in 2011 (start at 1:00)

There was an incident at Phillip Island a few years ago, when a slow-moving safety car nearly got cleaned up by a car going full noise over the rise into turn 1.

Apparently, the pit exit is temporarily closed when the SC is within cooee of the front straight. I guess in theory, it lessens the likelihood of someone doing a qualifier under SC conditions to get to the back of the queue, and still remain on the lead lap.

I'm not sure it's a PI thing, or something that is used everywhere else too.
