I do wonder if the Mclaren will just dominate GT4 though. As a roadcar the 570s has 562bhp whereas the G55 has around 375bhp and the Aston Martin Vantage 455bhp. I dont know, maybe im over simplifying it but im just worried you'll end up in a couple of years time with GT4 being a Mclaren spec class because the car is so dominant.

It never really took off because there weren't so many series that allowed GT4 cars to race. Plus, GT4 was introduced just when GT3 was gaining popularity and now that GT3 is getting more expensive, teams are slowly entering GT4.

I am disappointed to see Motorbase only fielding one car, and that Ahmad Al Harthy isn't in the championship for 2016.

Yeh well it's not like GT3 is dying... Seems to me like both GT3 and GT4 are booming in spite of the slight rise in costs. My guess is that the increased popularity of both classes and the increased income that generates, makes up the rising costs of running such a car. But that's just conjecture, I don't have any statistics to back that up.

What does the McLaren GT4 cost?
The Porsche Cayman GT4 costs 111k Euro ex VAT. However it's not going smoothly for the Cayman: Quote:

Mclaren £159k, reports on Twitter suggest its as fast if not faster than GT3 cars in a straight line but is yet to have any BOP applied.

That's a major feck-up by Porsche. Really dropped the ball on this and it would be a shame for those teams to suffer because of their tardiness. :/ |

Also a lot of problems with the electronics. Still a lot of cars sold already, the field in VLN will be huge.

Are they going to stream this live this year? I'd watch this if I could watch it live.

Announced today. Ciaran Haggerty and Sandy Mitchell in a Garage 59 McLaren.
It made a lot of sense when I posted it last year and I am delighted that the youngsters got the chance. Well done to McLaren and their young driver project. |

Question for the experts here. With something like 23 Euro GT4 cars going to be added to the field for the 3 Hour race at Silverstone (making a field of roughly 55), how many spots do we think that'll leave for one off entries like, hypothetically speaking, the Hector Lester Ferrari or that Whelen Calloway Corvette that's roving around Europe this summer? I'm not sure what sort of upper limit the series has or the limit of the pitlane at the track.

8 of those 23 Euro GT4s are from that Reiter Young Star thing and those will sit out Silverstone, so the field should be manageable.

Can't you just send the teams an email? They'll probably be happy to help you out.

So round one of the British GT Aston Martin benefit Championship. Yawn. How come everything else gets BOP but the Aston just keeps dominating ? No Porsche, Ferrari , Mercs or Audis in 2016 Maybe they know the Aston is unbeatable in GB

Well there was an Audi (although it did end up in the gravel). Also the Bentley and the Lambos were quick (as was the AMD Z4) - it's hard to tell what would have happened if the pitstops had played out normally, as it was there was the full course yellow and the pitstops all got bunched up as a result with everyone pitting at the same time - so some got held up in the pits. Without the fcy period I think the Bentley would have retained the lead at the stops (and probably the Lambo second) so an Aston win would not have been a certainty.

Was a shame that so much of yesterdays race took place under yellow flags: and that the race itself was cut short.
Interesting battle up front though. As Bert says, were it not for the extended safety car period, the Bentley surely would have been on the top step of the podium. Based on the rate they were catching second place, they were very unlucky not to reclaim that position as well. The R8 certainly looked good: it seemed to be attracted to the gravel traps though! |
