2016 Blancpain GT Series

Time we opened a thread for the new season, I hope no one minds.

2016 Blancpain GT Series Calendar

8th-10th March Official Blancpain GT Series Test Day Paul Ricard
08th-10th April Italy – Sprint
23rd-24th April Monza (ITA) – Endurance 3 hours
07-08th May Brands Hatch (GBR) – Sprint
14th-15th May Silverstone (GBR) – Endurance 3 hours
24th-25th June Circuit Paul Ricard (FRA) – Endurance 1000kms
01st-03th July Nürburgring (DEU) – Sprint
05th July Official Test Day Total 24 Hours of Spa (BEL)
28th-31st July Total 24 Hours of Spa (BEL) – Endurance 24 hours
26th-28th August Budapest (HUN)* - Sprint
17th-18th September Nürburgring (DEU) – Endurance 3 hours
01st-02nd October Barcelona (ESP) - Sprint

Big surprise with HTP parting ways with Bentley and Team Parker Racing entering the Pro Am Cup next year with two Bentleys.

http://sportscar365.com/blancpain/be...tinental-gt3s/

No word of HTPs future plans.

Back to Mercedes for HTP maybe?

If no Bentleys run in the Sprint series, are their full season BES entries still allowed to enter Spa under their ridiculous new rule? I presume so, and it's not like they'd really be turned away anyway.

Do we have any confirmation of WRT's return?

Well after Mercedes and HTP split after Mercedes denied them a shot at DTM I doubt enough time has passed to heal those wounds but money talks louder so who knows? BMW seems the more reasonable choice with the exit of MVDS.

No confirmation of WRTs return but would be highly surprised if they didn't return to fight it out with the new car for a full season.

They seem to be doing TCR Beneleux but im guessing they can do both

Great to see at least two BMW in next years BES especially with factory support. They did really well this year so hopefully they get up to speed with the new car quickly.

Good news to see Rowe further expanding and to confirm a strong VDS replacement (although a small shame it comes at the expense of the best looking Mercedes out there).

I'm pretty sure the Manthey 'rumour' won't be happening, Porsche themselves alluded to originally targeting Spa but deciding against it due to the new SRO rule where you have to run the whole championship. As they seem to be struggling for customers a little, I don't think there will be two full-season entries.

Just throwing this out here in case it interests someone... I wrote a little season review and put together a (pretty huge) gallery of our best shots from the 2015 Blancpain GT season. Onwards to 2016! http://www.gt-report.com/2015/12/04/...-blancpain-gt/

Well it seems Stephane Ortelli has been dropped by Audi due to cost cutting measures.
Quote:
“The new policy in the group demanded budget cuts,” Ortelli told Endurance-Info. “In addition, Audi-contracted drivers have to be re-assigned due to the absence of the third Audi at Le Mans.

“This is another chapter in my career that will open. Everything was decided quite late but I have no bitterness. I saw [myself] and my teammates thrive in recent years.”

Be interested to see where he ends up. I'm sure we'll see him in BES this year.

So at the moment we have this??

- 3x BMW M6? (Rowe 2, ROAL 1)
- 4-6x Huracan? (Barwell 1 or 2, Team Brasil 1 or 2, Attempto at least 1, ARC Bratislava 1)
- 4-6x new Audi R8? (WRT 2-3?, Phoenix 1-2? Car Collection 1?, what about Sainteloc & Loeb Racing?)
- 4x Bentley (2 M-Sport, 2 Parker)
- at least 1, maybe 2 or more Nissan (RJN, ?)
- Probably 6-8 Ferrari's, or 12 like Monza 2015 (AF Corse, Kessel, Rinaldi, ?) 488 or 458?
- 2 Mercedes AMG's (Black Falcon, maybe more?)

- Does the Jaguar stay on for 2016? And what about the Aston Martin's, Porsche's? McLaren's? BMW Z4's? older R8's?

Will it be 35+ cars again or less because of all those GT3 championships now..?

Nice to see him going out from Audi, on a winning note at Sepang. I know they can't keep everyone on the books, particularly with the young guns they have, but at 45, he's still got plenty to offer.

He would definitely be a fine pick for any other manufacturer, but if you asked Audi Sport if they would rather drop Ortelli or risk losing another young prospect (a la Tincknell) I think the choice becomes obvious.

Unfortunately it didn't quite work out for Stephane to take the car to the flag today, but with the victory he had as good a send-off as possible.

Yeah me too very happy for him. Hopefully he finds another good ride this year, he might be 45 buts he a class act, too good to be sitting on the sidelines.

Well whatever McLaren are doing this year Kevin Estre won't be a part of it as he's signed with Porsche. Big loss for McLaren but big pickup for Porsche.

Kessel Racing confirmed (at least) 2 new Ferrari 488 GT3's for Blancpain Endurance with possibly a 3rd car. They also want to try and compete in Sprint Series with 1 car.

So that's another new GT3 car in Blancpain after the BMW M6, Lambo Huracan, Audi R8 & hopefully Mercedes!?

Mercedes-AMG GT3 will definitely be there, Black Falcon has bought two and is trying for a third. No doubt we'll see them in Blancpain GT as well.

Good to hear Kessel will return. Would've been surprised had they not returned, the BES seems to be a good fit for them. Shame one of those cars isn't in Pro though. No doubt we'll see the new Mercs but with who being the question at the moment.
