Mk1 Escort - 2 litre - Nick Whiting

Nick Whiting was the brother of Charlie Whiting and friend of Bernie Ecclestone who has murdered in a drugs related gangland killing. He later drove a Capri prepared by Charlie.

No problem Pete
i hope it helpped a bit

No the xr3 that Chris had we sold to someone who took it to Indonesia then brought it back and alan crosby did buy it off him and raced it up here in the local gt series but not seen it for a few years though , the body was bottom half of a porker 911 of some description and the top half was mk 3 escort. the engine was 3.5 Rover V8 but a few blow ups later a little trip to TVR we put a 4.2 V8 in it in turn i think alan had it bores to 4.5 or put a tuscan engine in it

i've got a few photos but can't post them how do you do it ????

Cheers

George, get yourself on to Facebook as well as on here, and on to the CSCC Special Saloons group as their are loads of original and current Specual Saloons and Zmodsports racers and enthusiasts in there who may be able to help you. Some of the original cars are bring raced again, along with Thundersaloons and Donington GTs with the CSCC.

Mystery Mk 1 Escort

I'm slowly managing to scan all of my old 35mm slides from years back and have just found this rather nice looking Escort special saloon, a picture I took at Mallory Park some time in the 1980's.
Does anyone recognise the car and could put a name please to the driver? (The general consensus is that it was a 1700cc or 2 litre car, not a 1300).
Any information would be interesting please.

Thanks for the reply Lee, I thought someone on here would know!
To be honest, I don't remember much about the car (let's face it, it'll be nearly 40 years ago, if I didn't have the same thing every day I wouldn't remember what I had for breakfast this morning!). Obviously at the time I would have take the picture for a reason, either that it was a nice looking car, or was being driven well. From what you've said, and looking at the picture it sounds like I could have taken the picture for BOTH reasons!

The GA V6 Mk.2 Escort which Nick Whiting had, a glorious sounding and looking machine, was sold to an oval racer in Holland who promptly destroyed the car at Barlo I think.
Bit late with this but Nick Whiting sold the car to Scotsman John Kirk who then sold it to the gentleman in Holland.
