Rear lights

Why do rear lights on single seaters work at all times... except during scrutineering?
I've just bought a 'Super Nebula 5'nblight from my local bike, shop for a tenner. www.vistalite.com
It's really bright and self contained. I don't think the regs say where the light switch has to be.

I've seen scrutes ask for rear light to be turned off by switch in cockpit, then to turn it back on and turn it off by master switch. I can't be ar$ed to check the Blue Book [too many problems with race stopping

], but you may need to buy a bike to pedal up and down Rhyl Promenade to get your moneys worth out of your 'Super Nebula 5'nblight.

I would think that they are also checking that the rear light has been wired through the master switch so that there is not a wire anywhere which is permanently live.

Ensure that you wire a 60 ohm resistor in series as the LED's will start to pop.

ive toyed with making a few of these for a supersports rear lights (you need brakes, sides and rain for them)it doesnt look to hard, superbright LED's are readily available and these could be set in a small plastic tub (put a bolt or nut in the bottom for attaching purposes or find one with lugs on the side) then all the required resistors can be fitted in the base before pouring in some form of thermosetting resin over the top to submerge all but the tips of thr LED's then its just a +ve and -ve job and bang, one rainlight for peanuts.

i really should do this, as i could do with some unobtrusive lights on the back of my road car and i dont want to stick a big nasty fog light or reverse light on it and spoil my nice clean ar5e end! ever tried reversing 50 yards down an unlit allyway in the dark!

at scrutineering ive seen them check as stated above, both with an on off switch and with the masterswitch, although ive always found that with bulb rain lights they work in scrutineering but fail to work when there needed for some reason or other! lol (usually the fact that bulb holders are designed for nicely sprung road cars and not the vibrations on a race car and as such the bulb works its way loose or out of contact

i like the f1 style ones, where they flash on and off, we fitted one of them to the supersports along with half of montoya's old datalogger!

Ever thought of reversing into work in the daylight and then you can drive out forwards when you have finished your tea drinking shift

nah thats at home, im a night own, i never arrve home before dark

its also dificult to reverse in and actually easier to reverse out in the dark, theres not the space to swing the car in to the parking place in reverse, id have to remove 5 inches from the side of my neighbours car to make it possible ive actually got used to it now, took a few weeks to learn tho

RS also do one that shines either red or green. Good shift light as they are about 30mm in dia. About £7 each.
