Mhhh.....I was just reading (one more time) an article about the Mclaren F1 (road car) and they talked about the gold parts the car uses for heat dissipation and such.....and I was wondering.
Has anyone ever used gold in F1?? Or is it forbbiden?? Or is it perhaps that the costs are too big when compared with the benefits? Just wondering. |

"costs too much" and "McLaren" are not part of the same vocabulary. The reason gold is not used as a heatshield in F1 is that ultra-rich car buyers who wouldn't appreciate the meaning of Inconel, Carbon Fibre and no-compromise design would realise that the application of Gold in the construction of an automobile means the car builder is serious. There are better materials used in F1 car design.

I was under the impression that they use a thin piece of gold plating around the fuel tank to try and keep the fuel cool..Im sure Ive seen this on one of my videos so i will have a hunt for it and see what I can find.
