Tristan should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

2002 (NOT 2001, please note)

Ferrari: Schumacher bros.
McLaren: DC and Heidfeld
Jordan: Button (too good a marketing opportunity to miss) and Fischo (he never wanted to leave anyway)
Williams: Montoya and ??? (please help!!)
Arrows: Gené and PDLR
Benetton/Renault: Trulli and Panis
Jaguar (by now much improved): Irvine (now far more pleased with the team) and HHF (taking Deutsche World Post sponsorship with him)
Sauber: (dare I say it) Rubinho?! and Jos Verstappen
Prost: Diniz anyone else they can bribe. Maybe Luciano Burti or Pizzoia if he wins at F3000
Minardi: Gaston and Salo (goes with the ferrai engines in a much improved team)
BAR: (much improved with Honda works dosh): JV and Junquiera
Toyota: Soyheil Ayari and RZ

So there.

But Hakinnen has looked so out of sorts latley. His qualifying "majic" has not really been happening latley. He hasn't really got the car sorted out the past couple of races. His press interviews (which, let's face it, were always awful) have gotten worse. Any comments we hear from him are usually critical of someone else. I think last year took a heck of a lot out of him and now he finds himself BEHIND his team mate.

I have just got this funny feeling he's at least considered quitting this season. I honestly think he's had enough and he doesn't enjoy racing anymore. He may yet retire this season if his fortunes do not improve DRAMATICALLY.

IF (as Murray says, F1 backwards) IF he does decide to call it a day who will take the McLaren spot? DC seems a dead-cert for next year but if not Hakinnen, then who? I can't see it being Ralfie as he is (reputedly) already under contract to Ferrari for 2002/3. Nor surely can it be Panis. NO way. They can do better. Villeneuve would be stupid to move from a works Honda deal be it at BAR OR Jordan and his close ties with Pollock would vouch for him staying.

I have just got a funny feeling that Eddie Irvine may use this opportunitiy (should it arise) to get the McLaren seat. But will he get on with Ron, Norbert, DC et al?

Rubens or some other Brazilian at McLaren. It's destiny.

Prost may sell out before 2002 - he is not making much headway and I can't see him continuing to take the abuse with no discernable progress, for another two years. He is hinting already that he'd like to get out if someone could take over.

Other Ex Cathedra predictions: neither Jacques nor Cranky Mika will be racing in 2002; Jos will be at Sauber; and Button will be struggling in midpack if he's in F1 at all, and M&M will transfer their butt-kissing cheerleading from Cranky Mika - now the retired former champion - to Button, that is they will hail him and obsess over him if he is anywhere in the area, including in the car park, while missing the race that is actually going on. Button will blame "media pressure" for his failure, conveniently forgetting that he was the one who generated the so-called media pressure in the beginning.
