24hrs at Silverstone
Can anybody update me on details for this event - I've tried the website but just get tech gremlins.
It would appear to be £10 on the day from the Silverstone site, but no mention of camping which is surely quite a factor at this meeting. Is anybody else thinking of going along? Thanks. |

I'm hoping to get there, there's still one thing that might stop me - but if I ignore it it might go away
For anyone that hasn't got it the official race site is http://www.silverstonebritcar24hr.co.uk/, it is down at the moment but had a decent amount of information when I last looked at it. As regards camping, not sure if any arrangements have been confirmed yet - I'd say check the official website when it returns, and if there's nothing maybe contact Silverstone, and let us know any reply? |

Was going to say that I'd already seen somewhere that there will be no on-site camping, although I can't remember where I read that. The number pretty much confirms that - it's for Whittlebury Golf Club. I know Silverstone doesn't normally have on-site (public) camping but they managed it for the LMES meeting, I thought they could have done the same here.

It's a shame there is no camping, I think they are making a bit of a mistake there, if they can do it for the LMES, then why not the Britcar 24 Hours. Looks like I will be staying in Chateau Clio that night, great...

Just do what people at Spa and LM do. Carry sleeping bag/blanket and sleep where you can for an hour, then walk on and watch some more.

Who is going to the Silverstone 24?
There has been much discussion on the marshals thread re the Silverstone 24 next month, I may not be able to make it my plans for the next few weeks are changing daily but who is going?
Below is part of a press release that details some of the planned spectator entertainment for the weekend apart from watching cars go round and round! Furthermore, a festival atmosphere is promised with live music, fairground rides, shops, stalls and refreshments available in the paddock area throughout the weekend, along with the opportunity to witness Hot Air Balloon races and also travel above the circuit in one of the balloons – a very rare vantage point! Tickets for the Silverstone 24 Hour Race, priced at £20, can be purchased by calling 0870 4588200 or via the Silverstone website www.silverstone-circuit.co.uk (http://www.silverstone-circuit.co.uk/) Camping facilities will be provided at the nearby Whittlebury Park Golf and Country Club, which backs on to the outside of Copse Corner. For further information regarding camping at the Silverstone 24 Hour Race, please call 01327 858092 |

I think I'm really looking forward to this... I just hope Silverstone really get behind it, and that the necessary elements such as good 24hr commentry etc are in place. Should be a great event if enough people turn up to give it some atmosphere, the usual thing at GB racing events.

I will be there during most of the 24hrs, but wont be camping. Got my ticket in the post on Friday! I was told that the event was Advance Ticket Holders only, anyone know anything about this? I was hoping to take a few mates with me, but they are unable to commit until nearer the time.

I found this press release on the EERC website the last para talks about camp site for spectators, but where is all this going to be set up on the circiut?
"Furthermore, a festival atmosphere is promised with live music, fairground rides, shops, stalls and refreshments available in the paddock area throughout the weekend, along with the opportunity to witness Hot Air Balloon races and also travel above the circuit in one of the balloons – a very rare vantage point! Camping facilities will be provided at the nearby Whittlebury Park Golf and Country Club, which backs on to the outside of Copse Corner. For further information regarding camping at the Silverstone 24 Hour Race, please call 01327 858092." Has anybody got a schedule? I've found various different versions on web sites but they are all different and conflicting? The EERC website states that the mandatory Britcar night qual is 20.00-22.00 Friday night rather than starting at 21.00 which was originally published on the provisional marshals schedule and there appears to be other differances while some races appear to have changed days. _________________ |

If the camping is in the Golf Cub will the entrance gate at Copse be open? I suspect probably not, in which case it's a long walk or an even longer drive to the main entrance.
EERC website did have a pdf of the timetable a week or so ago but seems to have disappeared now. All I can find now is http://www.eerc.co.uk/24hrsite/content/view/18/2/ which is next to impossible to read. Have to say that both the Britcar24hr and EERC websites are pretty hopeless when it comes to information, something that's been echoed in National/Club several times already. Couldn't decide between this and the Renault Festival at Donington but as I forgot to apply for my free Donny tickets it looks like I'll be at Silverstone. |

I would agree with what Redshoes said, the Britcar/EERC website is rubbish and a waste of time. I also can't decieded if I am going or not and does anyone know how much it is on the gate to get in?

Well I am down to run in the main support race that Legends is organising for pre-war sports cars. I understand that we are qualifying on Friday afternoon, racing Saturday. However, from what people are commentating on this website, there is an intimation that the spectators have not been considered in respect of camping and unfettered access to the circuit. The whole point of 24 hr racing from a spectators' perspective is that camping needs to be close to the action so that you can move from campsite to circuit fairly easily and then roam round to the various vantage points. I have camped at Le Houx many times and on my reckoning the walk from the Whittlebury campsite across to Becketts or even Copse is something similar to the walk from Le Houx to the pits at Le Mans. It is not far...I live very close to Whittlebury Hall and on GP weekends I can walk from my house to the BRDC Clubhouse (even further) in 15-20 mins. The crucial point is that the gates close to Copse and Becketts need to be open with personnel to check tickets/ensure security. If not then it defeats the whole idea of camping at Whittlebury. To have to go all the way round to the main entrance would be a real route march. Let's hope they see sense! It will be disappointing if the event doesn't get a reasonable crowd. I hear that the LMES event was so poor in terms of spectator numbers that it is questionable that the event will be hosted again. We need endurance racing events in this country.

I'm assuming the timetable on the eerc website as redshoes posted is the most up to date as it was only put on their site last week. However, this is at least version 4 - and as these events are susceptible to change I doubt it will be the last, so don't take what I've interpretted as gospel! But for those who daren't battle against the incomprehensible official website:
Essentially Friday starts at 9am with qualifying session, with the Britsports race kicking off the afternoon at 13:40 and 2 other races (Dutch Supercars) and 2 practices. Night qualifying is 2 hours from 8pm. Sunday starts again at 9am with Motor Racing Legends qualifying, Dutch Supercar and Ferrari races, lunch, then Dutch Supercar and Ferrari Races again from 13:30 following by the Legends and the 24 hour race starts at 5pm |

Qualifying Sat 9am, racing Sat 3.15pm Roys, there several major changes between that one and the one on the Britcar site. As there's no issue number on the Britcar one we still don't know who to believe. |

As regards which timetable to use, I'm going to assume at the minute that the one on the Britcar site is current as that's from last week and issue 3 is definitely fairly old now - but it being the eerc website nothing is impossible |

Really looking forward to this. Looks like a good entry with many cars capable of winning. A get together at some point would be good. I live local so flexible to any suggestions.

Silverstone 24hours meet-up
Not long to go, the entry looks promising, with a whole bunch of cars in with a chance of winning. Anybody up for a 10/10ths meeting sometime over the weekend ?
