Dave S should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
iCR.Com has learned that a CART owner's meeting held this weekend at Milwaukee included discussions about adding both Lausitzring, Germany and Rockingham, England to the 2000 schedule. In order to make room for both races, CART will remove Homestead, Nazareth, and Madison, Ill. from the 2001 schedule.
The expectations are that both European races will be added in September of 2001.
Sanction fees raised from the German and British races would be used to buy out the remaining portions of the Homestead, Nazareth, and Gateway contracts.

It is a shame for fans in those areas, but they are the weakest attended races in the series. The CART owners have all expressed a desire to limit the number of races to the current level and it looks like they'll get there way.

Wish they would drop Fontana in stead. Wretched place.

Hopefully it will be great news for those based in the UK like myself.

The articles in the UK are pretty consistent with the info. already in this thread, although I've also seen Detroit mentioned as likely to drop-off the calendar in 2001.

Fontana won't be dropped as long as it's one of the 2 US ovals which gets a good crowd (the other being CMS)

As for Detroit, it won't be dropped until after 2001.

I'm not going back to Fontana. I hated the place even before Moore was killed there. But I will go to Rockingham if they do get a CART race.

Heeltoe - according to Autosport it's a done deal that Detroit is off the calendar for next year.

And WAY past time for Detroit! Seeing as how TG won't compromise as far as CART & the Indy 500, & him being a 'bussinessman' & out for all the bucks he can get, how about a CART date at IMS using the road course? Get CART & F1 using the same track & see who is quickest. Just for interests sake? (I know I'm dreaming here)

Autosport (as well an indy star news and WWJ-Detroit) jumped the gun on the rumor, if you believe what cart PR says that is(I will concede that they will not always reveal the entire truth in the earliest manner).
The following is a quote from CART President and CEO Andrew Craig: "Reports of discussion of a buyout of the remainder of the contract of the Detroit Grand Prix are entirely false. CART has a contract with IMG that covers the years 2000 and 2001. A buyout has never been discussed with IMG. In fact we are currently working closely with IMG to locate and secure an alternative race venue in Detroit for future years."
