The deal probably includes her being the headline performer at Sydney. Doubt it would involve tour rights - those things are generally far more complicated with a lot of stakeholders.

Plus, if Pink is doing Sydney, then she almost definitely would not tour Australia until mid-2011. To justify it, V8SA need to promote a unique opportunity - like they did with Cold Chisel. They don't want you to be able to see Pink anywhere but at the Sydney 500.

That is IF she's doing Sydney. While I can see the link-up, I don't know that she really is the right replacement for Chisel to get the non-V8 crowds in. There's been no announcement about performing at Sydney.

One thing that I don't get is that transforming futuristic truck. Why do they need some lame looking poor CGI knock off of Optimus Prime?

What? A montage of car crashes with a tacky D grade song!

I know your not serious D.R.T.

Great Idea getting Pink. Bad Idea letting her choose the scriptwriter and director.

The Russel Crowe Bathurst 09 intro was fantastic. Why didn't they get Rusty to do a start of season intro?

Ok so here is my opinion - CRAP!!

I watched it and walked away in disgust! Why is it that V8 Supercars insist on doing there marketing campaigns with each one showing less and less racing cars!!

Sydney was nearly advertised as a Rock Concert with a few car races attached.

V8 Supercars has certainly lost its appeal to me, I enjoy watching club level racing, no nonsense, no bull****, lets get out and have fun racing.

I think the idea of having Pink singing a song actually MADE for V8 Supercars (like that 'Hearbeat of the Nation' song, except better!) would have been a good starting point. Plus all the average Joe wants to see on the TV are car crashes...

And also: I thought Russell Crowe was supposed to be 'The Official Voice of V8 Supercars'. Why not get him and his ****house band (30 Odd Foot of Grunt or whatever it is) to put something together??

DRT i believe is getting at the fact that the 'heartbeat of a nation' ad is publicising the cars, the action, showing what it is all about, cars going around a circuit, which is after all the whole point of the exercise, and why people watch.

This latest ad is promoting and publicising what exactly, apart from Pink herself??

The comparison with Tina Turner and the NSWRL int he Winfield Cup doesn't stack up, in those ads football, and the onfield action, were prominent in it all. All we have is a CGI truck that turns into a concert stage....

Right replacement?? Look at the majority of people that attended her shows, women and young girls, they're VESA target market at the moment. It don't take a brain scientist or rocket surgeon to observe that they're trying harder to get the families, and when I say families, I mean whole families, not just the father's and son's. Calendars of half naked drivers only work so much to attract the demographic they want, whilst half naked grid girls do detract some of them away, but using someone like Pink should bring them in like lambs to the slaughter.

Still, worse commercial ever!!!

This type of ad does attract more people to go to an event, so yes, in the short term, it may be a success. But IMO, these ads don't work, in an overall increase in permanent attendances. The Cold Chisel thing worked well for Sydney last year, so TC will have to have another rabbit to pull out of his hat again this year. The guy is a promotions specialist so his master plan will always be to have another trick to unleash.
The reality is, that the V8s are about a third or fourth tier player in the sports market in Aus, behind the footy codes and cricket. V8SC will go up and down depending on what the latest star or attraction to get the crowds in or the TV ratings up. Sooner or later, the sport, be it V8s, AFL, NRL, Cricket etc etc, reach their maxed out crowd or fan support figure and no matter what the powers that be do, thats it, so they are better off just promoting the product to the fans and keeping the converted existing fanbase happy.

Cheesy song, but that ad sends shivers down my back, especially the Oran Park and Bathurst bits. Never liked Lee Kernaghan, but he's better than "pink".

One thing this ad will do well is actually get V8 Supercars recognised across the mainstream. For all Cochrane's bluster about the size of V8s, it is still a fringe sport - the biggest little sport most people have barely heard of.

Having someone like Pink on board will give it some commercial credibility and respect - regardless of the perception of the ad's quality.

And look at the drivers they selected for the ad. Potential 'Teenage Heartthrobs'

Of course everyone on this forum is going to can it (cause it sucks IMO), but it's not our opinion that counts. It's the opinion of the target demographic that don't currently attend/watch V8SC's that count.

My 13 year old stepdaughter has already informed me that if I'm going to Homebush this year and Pink is playing, she wants to tag along.

Thanks VESA! Great way to ruin a boys weekend.

Great footage. Love the transporters circa 1993. The 'HRT bucket incident' always makes me cringe/laugh. Seems everyone except the bloke holding the bucket knew what was going to happen.

While not ad's, my favorites were the 2000 Bathurst montage to U2's Elevation and the closing credits montage to P.O.D's Here Comes The Boom from around 2001/2002.

That's the kind of stuff that VESA want to see happening. Hopefully she then gains an interest into the sport after she see's a couple of the "centerfold" drivers in the field and keeps coming back.
