Has there been a press release about the safety car deployment to pick up Steven Richards in the pit lane in New Zealand, It was an absolute joke.

It didnt just happen in NZ it also happened at Indy with Simon Wills. The "real" leaders see the SC boards and back off but the person who hasn't pitted must keep up the pace and hammer into pitlane complete his stop and get out near the front of the queue.
The may have to shut the end of pitlane during a SC period like they used to.

What they need is some sort of eeelectronical type thingy that can tell where the cars are and if they's come down pitlane or not them sum won could git on tha walkie talkie and tell them what car they should be looking for.If such a device could be made you's could ewe's it to git lap times and every fing.

The timing monitors already have the pit identification on them there for a small in car screen in the safety car could alert them when the leader hits the pits.

Why don't they just get those people on the start/finish line to check who's crossing the line?

The electronic method is probally more accurate (says he as the turret swings around and points towards another volunteer who happened to draw Start Finish line as his flag point for the event)Electronically can also be looked at post event in the event of a diagreement. For this to work but you need the timing bands to be at pit entry and exit to detect the car properly as anyone with live timing will tell you if a cars pit is after to the start finish it shows them as having crossed the line and fails to reconise that they are stopped untill they appear at the next sector having dropped 20 positions.line

I think it adds an element of tactics to the game.

But if everyone has an issue, then just close the pits when safety cars are deployed like they used to. Simple really...

Why not have a bloke at the entrance of pit lane calling out who's coming in by radio then?
