Williams to buy into Newcastle Utd ! ! !

This just in from Autosport.com

Newcastle United has denied reports that Formula 1 team boss Sir Frank Williams is poised to buy a large stake in the club.

Williams has been widely reported by the British media as set to buy former chairman Sir John Hall's 47 percent shareholding in the club, allowing him to assume control with chairman Freddy Shepherd. Sir Frank already has a small shareholding in the club, and was spotted at its famous St James Park ground recently.

"He was in the area and had a meeting with various people at the club," said a club spokesman. "It was a personal visit, nothing more."

Williams is a Newcastle fan, but his last venture in football ended on a sour note after he ploughed money into Oxford United, which lost him about three million pounds.

I wish he would buy in to my club Sheffield Wednesday we need the money a quickly, so Sir Frank, thick again, buy into the Owls instead.

Hmmmmmmmm...... a contradiction of terms surely?

I see this as a possibility, Williams is reportedly a very big fan of the clud and already owns 500 shares. I am some what worried however as to what effect such a level of investment, in the football club, would have on the running of the F1 team.

Perhaps a nice seat in the directors box and a whisky at half time signals retirement in the short / medium term.

No-one should ever underestimate the power of childhood memories of a footie club especially if you're from the north east.

It's not just a sport up there, it's a religion!

But, then again so is F1 for many! So, perhaps Frankie is returning to his spiritual roots!

Can't see it. The figure reported is £23m and I can't see Frank spending that on a footy club that won't give him his money back and a return. None of the clubs are making profit unless your Man Utd.

Maybe not for much longer!

Well F1 has success cycles - perhaps football is about to have one with Man Utd falling from grace - let's hope so!
