Who raced S 2000 in the early years?

A challenge to you all;

Who can list names of people who raced and/or owned Sports 2000 cars in 79/80/81/82/83?

I especially want to see who raced etc Lola T 490/492

Anybody up for this?

Graham.

What about someone like Richard Peacock? He ran in Thundersports in '84 in a Crossle
and he would have his finger in lots of pies?

My Lola was with a Kelly girl Green body when new, and in about 82/3 was painted dark red.
Possibly driven by Peter Sadler?

The original Divina Galica T490 in '77 was backed by Kelly Girl, in their green. This car went to John Webb I think for '78? Peter Sadler had a new T492 in 78 or 79 I think.

Dan, that would tie-in exactly. There were only 2 Kelly green cars, the HU 490 of Galica, now with Bob in Canada and my car which was ordered by J Sadler at the very end of 78.

I am really trying to find evidence of my car racing in 79/80/1/2/3/4.

It was green and became dark Red by 83 ish.

It is still a bit 'invisible'!

S2000s

Well if you find any evidence of my Elden Mk 23 racing let me know. All I can find are the Thundersports entries and the Mk11 in some of the first sports 2000 events. It was not the most competative thing then!! I think it may have been the car owned by Adrian Hamilton and its chassis 2.

Good luck, I have been looking in Autosport and Motorsport news, so will let you know if I find anything!!!

Will do , and please do!

Mrs Hillclimber has been on the case.

Huub Vermeulen was the head of the Dutch Racing Team.
Lots of 492's went out there with his name as the Agent, even some 'GB' cars...

She has also spotted a third Kelly Green car.

HU 4 The 'original' Kelly girl car, owned by Bob
HU 33 Bought by Pressler Wearnot on the Lola Heritage Chassis register
HU XX my Lola bought by Pressler Wear / J Sadler, not on the Lola register

But HU33 would/should not have had the later 1½" engine frame; too early, if Lola's own records are to be believed.

there are actually 4 green cars supplied hu4 kelly girl green, hu33 kelly green, hu62 kelly green and hu92 british racing green.
According to Bob Marston the rear tube size could have been changed as part of an upgrade to 492 later spec. why was hu33 replaced with hu62? damaged? could this be a source of any parts?
my car came with a dark red front section with modified nose and front radiator openings. A peter sadler was very active in large bore cars in late 60s early 70s . is he is related to j. sadler

you seem to be making progress
cheers bob k.

Bob

Perhaps I've missed something here, but surely as your car was originally a T490, it should have had a front radiator anyway? Or was it retrofitted with the factory T490/2 conversion kit, and then later refitted with a front radiator for some purpose or another?

Regards

Clive

The owner and driver of my Lola in 82/3 was Bernie Garwood.

Just who is Bernie??

Bernie is dead (Healey racing crash)

Who knows Bernie??

Clive your assumptions are correct "later refitted with a front radiator for some purpose or another" car is now (again) in 492 side rad spec.

Hi Bob

Hi Bob,

Did you ever fill in all the missing links in your car's history?

I have changed my name due to amnesia.

Regards,

ozmech

Graham, you don't mean Bernard Horwood do you?? He was based around the South coast I think. I don't remember him in S2000s, but he could have done some races at Brands maybe or Lydden Libres perhaps. I don't recall a Bernie Garwood at all.

Just re-listened to a clear speaking Paul, definitely Bernie Garwood.

Steve has a record of Bernie entering a race in 82 with a Lola but failed to turn up. No other record of him.
He died testing or racing a Healey, so that should place him maybe..

forcesreunited has an entry for a Private Bernard Garwood who lived 1938-2002 and guess what his last location was Sussex - might be him?

I think that ties in with the date of death, and of course the location.
Thanks for the details, it all helps finish the picture off!
