Agoulême - The last Circuit-des-Ramparts?
I am sure that you are all aware of this story that the powers that be in Agoulême have made a bizarre decision to limit the speed of racers in the annual Circuit-des-Ramparts to the city speed limit of 50kph. The full story can be see here www.prewarcar.com
What an absolute shame if this is allowed to happen. Will anyone be making a trip for what could be the final speed event there? |

Yes,it is a great pity for this decission to have been taken, why would anyone want to drive all that distance for what would be a 30mph parade?

Me and Compte are hoping to be there in 2010. Back in 2005 we all drove the FJ's across the town for a reception with a police escort. We all went a bit steady on the way but the return trip after a couple of glasses of champaign. WE WAS RACING.Just the most amazing experience.

Yes, I have just noticed that. Alan is absolutely correct, the matter has now been resolved and it's business as usual - but with a breathalyser before you can go out on the circuit to race!

There's a free bar for the drivers (and team) at the paddock entrance. There wasn't actually a breathalyser (AFAIK) this year, but drivers were asked to be 'sensible'. [Oxymoron alert]

My only regret of Agouleme was that Regga was there last time we went. I had a quick chat with him then went off to buy a poster which he said he would sign for me. I then left if till the Sunday to find him but he had gone as his car had broken.

Ian and I got breathalised this year in the sportscar race! Hadn't touched a drop, honestly! Have a look at the attached, Ian behaving badly at the circuit, or so the Frenchman in the Sprite seemed to think! Can't wait till next year!

OR; common sense prevails, after all the French bless em have never been keen on rules of any any kind except where it suits them.

The first year that they introduced the breathalyzer the organisers were so annoyed that they conducted the test by pressing the equipment against Bill Grimshaw's neck and asking him to blow.
As the man charged with the task of conducting the test said to Bill (an FJ driver) "Monsieur, nobody has ever failed my test"!" |
