Andrew Fellowes should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Well the guy who made a lot of the original ones worked for a firm in Northampton, can't recall the name but Someting Craft, Aluminium Something?
90% chance you will have to have one made, but you can always try the likes of Hadfield, Denty or Hoole.

C.E.S. near Brisbane do a great job

Thanks for the information. I have contacts for Peter Denty and Simon Hadfield, but not 'Hoole'. Any chance of contact details in a PM please?

Andrew.

(Alternatively, I'll just pop into Brisbane from one!)

http://www.hooleracing.com/ -has all the details you will need. You may be lucky and find a 2nd hand one but its unlikely, I think you will have to bite the bullet and have one made but you can get them enamel treated inside and out which will make them last longer.

BT35X-1
from Mike Scott;
'I bought the car from a dealer in late 73, I raced it in F4 with 1litre screamer, ........could not sell the car, I eventually sold it to the late Tony Brown the hill climb man, that was I think late 75 or 76, ...,'

can anyone help Mike with contact details for Chris Roden who I have as being the owner now?

According to The Black Book Tony Brown was running a 5.0 Brabham-Repco BT36X at Gurston Down in August 1975 and again at the August Shelsley the following year. Dave Bishop then appeared in BT36X-1 at Wellesbourne in the Sprint Championship in 1977.

Any thoughts?

Further to the above:

I noticed that the BT36X that Tony Brown ran in 75 & 76 was the ex-Mike MacDowell car from 1974 - in fact it was still in the same colour scheme in 1976! Both MacDowell and Brown entered the car as a BT36 in period.

It is strange that Tony Brown owned a BT35X and a BT36X at the same time. I can only summise that he bought the BT35X because it was cheap!

The only other I am able to find is A/S. with a report from a Rufforth meeting 26-4-1973 p.41 , that George Dixon has purchased the ex. Nick Williamson/ Iain McLaren BT35X , and is fitting car with a BRM Twin-cam.

Nothing further, but many adverts could be this car as time goes by, but no definate trail.

Does Mike Scott mean BT36X-1?

Or are our histories of BT35X-1, BT35X-2 and BT36X-1 in a muddle?

The email from Mike is titled BT35X, not X-1 or 2, but frankly neither fit comfortably, but who am I to argue with an owner? I hadn't considered 36X, but its a better fit, I'll ask.

Tony Brown at Prescott

Above: Tony Brown in the ex-Mike MacDowell car at Prescott in September 1976.

As I said earlier I believe this to be one of the BT36X chassis!

Drawings of rear frame

I have to come up with a paper template or working drawings for the rear most frame on the BT 35 chassis. As you may recall my car was shunted rather badly in 1973 when the rear frame member was carried away with the engine and gearbox.

Thanks to Don Roose I have a very large number of photographs of the rear frame and have shared those with my fabricator who is ready to start rebuilding my wrecked frame. A note: I am missing everything rear of the side motor mounts; or about the last 14" of the frame. I have faith in the fabricator to make the repairs but he still needs a paper template traced from a complete frame or working drawings from which to patern his work.

I know it is a slim chance but does anyone have working drawings (prints) or a accurate template of the rear frame member that they would be willing to share?

Many thanks,

Bob Slusher

Driver would be Chris Dowson. He was entered for the Barbon hillclimb in Mayin a 1598cc Brabham but was a non-starter. By 1981 he was driving a Repco V8 powered Brabham.

I was sure I'd already posted this but I must be imagining it.

The ex-Gerard/Wingfield BT35-FVC that is reported to have been used by Tim Wood in 1976 passed to Joe Applegarth for 1977 (AS 14 Apr 1977 p58).

35 Measures

Bryan.
Thank you so very much Bryan. I traveled to Seattle, Washington yesterday to perform a measure out of Don Roose's #44 car homed at J&L Fabrications. My, but they have a lovely bunch of vintage and very fast machines under their care.

Measurements with the pesky running gear in the way it was quite the ordeal but I did get most of what my fabricator will need to fab the missing last bulkhead. I will make a AutoCad drawing of the measures and then likely ask you for confirmation of a missed item or to fill in a gap or two. Would that be right with you?

Again, many thank for your kind help on this project.

Peace,

The BITZA could refer to the engine as quiet often they were cobbled together from two or more units!

What was the exact context of the mention in MN - a race report? There is an active current motorsport forum in Barbados (Zhaust) so it may be worth posting a question there. I'll try and get a question about it to Jimmy Fuller in Antigua next month but I think he would have been in UK for F3 (with a BT38) by Mar 73.

OK, the Bajans are now on the case.

Already one personal recollection of Mike Gill racing a Brabham at their Bushy Park circuit.
A recollection the engine (FAtlantic?) from it ended up in an Imp there, but not the reason why it was parted from the chassis. Possibility of chassis sold to a "French Connection" (Martinique would be most likely candidate for that?)

What a fantasic place this is, I spent yesterday banging my head against a brick wall looking for an 'in' to Barbados Motor Racing!

Anuauto I have another one for you, Chris Sherret took BT30-12 there in around 1974/5 and the car returned to the UK in 1986. I have nothing on what it did there.

I don't have my MNs in front of me to quote but it would seem that Mike Gill won a number of races at one event. He came in for high praise but I'll dig out the details later today.
