"Supercars are now third highest rating sport on FoxSports" - Fin Review

The Supercars motor racing series is now the third most watched sport on pay-television operator Fox Sports after a ratings surge this year.
With five races remaining, this year's Supercar events are up 36 per cent on Fox Sports, compared to the same period in 2015.

Ratings statistics show the Supercars coverage on the pay-television network has been about 80 per cent more popular than Super Rugby and has attracted almost 120 per cent more viewers than soccer's A-League so far this year, with the motor racing circuit now only behind the NRL and AFL on pay-TV.

The Supercars are in the second year of a six-year $241 million broadcast deal with Ten Network and Fox Sports. The pay-TV operator telecasts all races, while Ten simulcasts the six biggest races including this weekend's Sandown 500 race and October's Bathurst 1000 – the most popular event on the sport's calendar.
Supercars chief executive James Warburton said the Supercars has also been able to grow the interest in its digital assets. "Video views on our website are up 80 per cent since last year, interactions with us on Facebook are up 30 per and traffic to the supercars.com website is up about five per cent."

Plans for future
Warburton said the circuit would soon announce its 2017 schedule, which will include a season-ending race in NSW to replace the Sydney event that will be held for the last time in December. He also said Supercars had agreements with up to three venues in Asia to hold events from 2018 onwards, the same year it could also race at a new track at Tailem Bend in South Australia.

Meanwhile, the Garry Rogers Motorsport team is understood to be contemplating legal action against Volvo after the Swedish car manufacturer withdrew it support for the team from 2017 onwards.

The GRM team is currently in the last year of a three-year deal with Volvo to race its cars in Australia, but the Swedish company decided in May that it would not renew the contract.

GRM has reportedly been hoping for Volvo to at least grant a year's extension to the existing deal, arguing star driver Scott McLaughlin could have stayed with the team instead of agreeing to move to DJR Team Penske in 2017 and that it has not had enough time to find a new manufacturer for next season.

The team has also claimed running Volvos in Australia had boosted sales of the car in the local market, with Volvo Dealers Council head John Dunn telling The Australian Financial Review that Volvo sellers were "very disappointed" and "we can't buy the exposure that [Supercars] gave us".

In a statement, Volvo said reiterated that the control would end in 2016 and added: "We have enjoyed our involvement in the sport, and we are looking forward to working with GRM and Supercars for a successful conclusion to the 2016 season."

Optus took Fox Sports long held third best performing sport from them in the EPL.

And it should be said, are performing terribly in broadcasting it to their paid subscribers.
