Surely all of those cars should be disqualified for that?

Even if all of the garages are allocated adjacent to each other why couldn't they allocated space in the pit bays the entire length of the pits?

They were using them them along with GT3 cup guys. All garages were allocated during the event.

The downpour meant everyone came in at the same time which wouldnt not have happened under dry conditions. That said it is still unacceptable with a number of cars and teams disadvantaged.

For 2018 event they will need to spread the pit allocations out and/or allow the teams to push further up the pit lane during the race.

Cracking race though - the dual between Talbot and Hackett to open the first 30mins of the race was outstanding.

The need for need for code 60 / Virtual Safety Car was highlighted again during the event.

Cheers. Thanks.

agree with your idea for 2018, although hopefully more cars in 2018

Agreed with the more cars however there are 40 - 50 pit boxes so this shouldn't be an issue

there are not that many individual boxes there though from memory, which means double stacking still a possibility

Will take your word for it. Was basing it off that 19 Aus GT, 16 Carerra Cup, 16 GT3 Cup and 4 to 6 F4 cars were all housed in the main pit building garages (granted some were 2 per garage)

Its that 2 per garage that cause the double stacking.

Still on the weekend there were 19 cars and i think there are about 30 pits, a bit better planning could have resolved the double stacking in the fast lane.

Lesson learnt hopefully

Pit lane official at Phillip Island advised that there are in fact 49 garages. Plenty of space - just need to use them

Is that 49 individual garages though? ie the ability to have 49 pit booms.

Or are there a number of double garages? (like at bathurst)

How many pit booms were there though?
MPC was servicing quite a few cars, were they thru 1 boom?

49 garages peckstar. No GT teams were double stacked in garages

Cheers

But the photo suggests double stacking, if there was no double stacking what caused the issue in the photo from hackett? Is it just a case there is no room to enter or leave a pit when the cars are in a row

Correct. The garages are narrow and the length of the car is greater than the width of the garages. With everyone pitting together this creates the issue.

MPC solution to this was criminal, especially as some teams sent their cars around again due to other cars being parked across their box

I'd suspect the rules just wouldn't proper cater for deterring this sort of thing, unfortunately. It is dirty pool.

If pit space was an issue, why not in future red flag the race, let everyone change tyres, then restart the race on aggregate?

MPC probably didn't have enough crew to service all the cars at once perhaps?

I dont think they knew it would be an issue until the whole field pitted on the same lap.

Unfortunately rather than sending their own cars around they held up everybody behind them which is pretty selfish.

But I guess these things have a way of working themselves out.
