If you "lot" think you are puzzled, well so are we. And even more I reckon. The yellow flags going both ways at the beginning is okay, the SC picking up any car isn't half bad either (you are either lucky or unlucky as a driver) as it might save a few laps getting the cars bunched up in the proper order. But what annoys me (and most marshals), is the green flag on every post as soon as the SC gets the last lap order somewhere around the track. Green everywhere but you are not allowed to overtake untill you reach the SF line.
Eh? Asking for lots of problems I think, but who am I? And I thought it only was silly in Belgium. |

During this weekend races at Brands, they deployed the safety car as usual from post 8 (back straight), picked up the first car that came up and then went on to business as usual: the cars where waved past until they had the leader. Meanwhile the only good thing I saw was the yellow flags going out both ways, which slowed the cars quite well and swiftly.
The restarts were done as usual: lights went out on the back straight and the green flag came out at the very last second on the SF straight. All cars were in a snake behind the SC, so nothing went wrong. This time. |

Eddy I was there on Saturday, and it did work .
However Brands Indy is quite short and you can see a fair bit of the track as you drive round so that helps. Take a track like Spa and throw in a great speed difference in classes , things don't work out as well. I lost a complete lap behind a car a couple of years back because he was going considerably slower than the pace car. OK I am no slouch at this track, but to make up 3 + mins ! Either some drivers don't understand the rules or are only there to "drive round" and not actually race IMHO |

Yeah, some years ago at Donington I was about to lap an Alfa when the SC came out so I was stuck. Despite flashing him and gesticulating at him, plus the marshals urging him on, he would not catch up to the car in front and indeed fell back. Hey ho, he was a novice but he really shouldn't have been out there.

Shame we missed Gordon.
Agree, it did work. But what (except the yellows going both ways) was different about the "new" system compared to the old one? |

One major problem,as Peter suggest's,is the general lack of knowledge that some drivers display under the SC period,it seem's as though there are quite a few drivers who dont seem to realise that by dragging around at the back, they ARE effectivly holding up procedings. Its often the case that, perhaps a novice, will be running in last place, that being the case, they should do everything possible [reasonably] to catch the end of the snake thus doing themselves and everyone else a favour.
