Are you involved with Perrinn in some way?
Yes but only a tiny bit, maybe it will grow later on.

Its not secret that I want to see as many designs out there as possible.

Ok, anybody here knows how much money is needed (ballpark) to take this project from where it is (drawing board) to actually race in LMP1 for a year?
yes a damn sight less than I thought!

I just mailed my check for "Less than SS_Collins thought." I hope that gets the team onto the grid.

Fans will also be able to listen in to the team's radio communications and follows the cars via their on-board cameras during events.

"We could imagine that schools and universities will want to interact and do their own analysis, and they might suggest their own solutions, which we will be free to accept or not.

"If you are in the grandstand with a smartphone, you will be able to see the same strategy panel that we are looking at in the pits and make your own suggestions."

"It's fine if people want to call this a gimmick, but it is our way to sell sponsorship.
To make this happen among other things they need a new website designer - the current one is pretty abysmal.

I don't see it as a gimmick at all. of course, the likelihood of the team ever making a strategy decision based on fan analysis is miniscule, but just to invite the fans in that far is phenomenal.

That's a good one. They also have a poll option who's gonna drive the car.

Racing is Tomas Enge's drug

My vote was split between Christophe Bouchut and Tony (??) Vilander. In the end Bouchut prevailed as I have a strong desire to see the Sacred Monster ride at Le Sarthe again

Perrinn releases first designs of LMP1 coupe it aims to race in WEC
By Gary Watkins

British constructor Perrinn Limited has made public a first batch of designs from the all-new LMP1 coupe it aims to race in the 2015 World Endurance Championship.

The three-dimensional CAD files, which include that of the car's engine cover (pictured), are downloadable.

They will be followed by the blueprints of every other component on the four-wheel-drive hybrid designed by the Yorkshire-based company.

Company boss Nicolas Perrin has launched an interactive open-source website under the myTeam banner that will give the public full access the P1 design and allow followers of his proposed WEC team to play a role in everything from car design to race strategy.

Perrin said that he was pleased with the response to his initiative, which already allows fans to vote for potential drivers for his team.

"We have had a good response and have had 20,000 page views from 7000 unique users in the first couple of weeks," he told AUTOSPORT.

"The plan is to add different components of the car each week: the front suspension will be next."

Perrin has launched the open-source website to help him gain finance to build his car, which is known as the myLMP1, and put together a team to field two entries in the WEC from next season.

He explained that his move had already opened doors with potential backers.

"There are discussions that have started since we launched the site, so the signs are really positive," he said.

Followers will be able to make suggestions to improve the design of the myLMP1, which has already been completed.
0.5% of the car has been released on the official site. http://perrinn.com/mylmp1

Good to see this being considered newsworthy by Autosport - this could be clever way of keeping a steady stream of news and press releases going, something Porsche have been doing for nearly a year now.

Seems like Nicolas Perrin has the the specialist press on his side if nothing else.

Anyone has seen or heard of the aero numbers? At least total DF and total drag at specific speed?

Thank you for posting this! Something tells me you are not going to tell us how you got those numbers and how realistic they are, but if we assume they are correct, that is actually one nice car, especially considering the limited resources.

The graphs are in quite small scale, so it is hard to see what the exact max numbers are, but rounding them up shows the L/D to be anywhere between 5,2 and 5,5 which if real, is quite remarkable number! Thanks again.

The top graph is the Drag (in newtons) at 50 m/s. It shows about 950 N of drag at that speed.

The bottom is Downforce (also in newtons), it shows about 5200 N (give or take, low resolution graph, can't tell the exact number).

So, at 50 m/s, which is 180 km/h, the car would produce about 5200 N of DF for about 950 N of Drag, which would result in L/D (Lift over Drag) ratio of about 5.5 (rounding it). Which if true, is really good numbers.
