Gt_R should be qualifying in the top 5 on the gridGt_R should be qualifying in the top 5 on the grid
yepp...for big teams like Ferrari, another reason could be the race engine is different from the qualifyings engines... and that the set up used for race is compromised not only for heavy fuel load, but it also takes into account tire wear, and gear ratios may be slightly tweaked to ensure engine is not on the rev limiter for too long etc... all this also affects the time.

I agree with that assesment. In 2001, BMW and Williams made a giant leap compared to 2000. In 2002 however, both BMW and Williams improved but not by the same margin as before. If anything, BMW once again did a better job that Williams.

Williams have always had trouble since Newey left and next year will be the key - which would indicate if Frank has built himself a good technical and aero team that can get the job done...BMW have also offered to help on the chassis side - I guess everyone is mindful that BMW's contract expires in 2004 and they may launch their own team if they cant get a championship with Williams before that.

Number 1....engines

Engines that were built have a specific lifespan, in other terms it can go for a certain mileage. Setups for the qualifying engines were setup to be pushed to the max, while for raceday it's more on reliability to finish the whole race. Revs per gear also vary on both occasion.

Number 2....car setup

The ride height...and when you lower the ride height, settings in dampers, springs, packers, anti roll bars and brake balancing too had to be changed. Because when the car's ride height is low...it'll have better grip, but it'll wear the underboard plank...but it's okay since it's only used for a few laps.

On raceday the ride height has to be raised as to not wear the underboard plank or the car could be disqualified. That's why there is a plank down there, FIA wanted to control the ride height.

Number 3.....tyres

You are right

Given the tradition of excellence at BMW, it won't take long for them to build a race-winning car. Still, constructing F1 cars should give the Bavarian guys a huge challenge, and even more so now that Ferrari has set the bar so high.

The FW25 must be a radical new design, it'd be hard to close to gap to even the F2002 with any other approach.
